Description ...moving fast across the sky
Now I see a glow, left and right.
Stars are falling down tonight, I fear....
And the pouring rain, eating my green grass,
Leaving a stain.
Never healing back to be the same.

Now tell me who won here tonight.
The price of winning worthless fight.
We'll make the same mistakes again...
Unless, this is truly the end.

Heat in the center, Destruction Preventer.
If you release one, you release them all.
You can't defend Her, kneel down and surrender.
Your end is at hand if they blow...

- Sonata Arctica "Destruction Preventer" [link]

To tell you the truth, I don't care very much for Adventure Time. I don't like the art style, the excessive randomness for the sake of randomness, or the seemingly nonsensical actions of the main characters, and I find it so unsettling that underlying all that sugar-rush strangeness is nothing but sadness, death and destruction. That the show's world came to be from the horrors of a war fought with the power of the atom. In episodes we see little reminders of this war, ruined structures and the remains of everyday objects. In some episodes we are shown glimpses and flashbacks of the past, before the world succumbed to nuclear fire.

The Ice King's backstory is really, really sad. He was once a happy man full of life and laughter, with a promising career and a "princess" who loved him. Then he happened upon that damned crown, and it took everything away from him, his love, his mind, his humanity, and he couldn't do a thing to stop it. I can't imagine the pain he must have gone through, if he was able to still feel pain, watching as the world destroyed itself at its own hands and being unable to stop it or even save the ones he loved and cared for. Thinking about that inspired this drawing.

I want to find out more about Simon and the cause of the war, what happened to Finn's parents and the other human survivors, and if there's any hope of mankind saving itself. These are the only reasons I pay attention to the show.

I Love Sonata Arctica and this song is really great, I think the nuclear war scene fit really well with the music!

Thanks man. I really agree and I wish that AT would show more of these kind of somber moments as opposed to the typical stuff.

Oddly enough, I'd just seen a bit of Adventure Time the other day. My good friend Pat likes the show, so he felt the need to introduce me to it. Interesting, but yes, there is much sorrow under the surface of it.

If the writers focused more on Finn trying to uncover what happened to not only his family, but the rest of the world, I'd be more inclined to watch. It's the excessive surreal nonsense that drives me away. They even do it during moments that should be reserved only for character development and poignant meaning. There needs to be a healthy balance. Regular Show understands that and it works well.

I think the writers lack of focus on the Mushroom War or what happened to humans is due to wanting to keep the whole thing mysterious. They have to be careful how much they delve into it or they may end up revealing too much and taking away interest. I wouldn't be surprised if they never reveal why the war started (though truth be told, I don't mind not getting an answer there. Humans are petty and it's real easy to come up with scenarios that would lead to nukes exploding everywhere).

To bad Twinkies went out of business the week before this happened in that we will never get to see if they are good though one of these things.
