darn it, I wish the movie hadn't gotten taken down from YouTube I'd love to see it, and all the versions of the DVD I can find are 'region 2.'

Hey, if you are still interested in watching a copy of Shield and Sword, I have a digital copy with english subtitles (although they aren't very good so I recommend understanding some basic russian phrases and greetings since it doesn't pick them up) I'm currently uploading it to mega (and/or drop box) so if you'd like i could link you when it's finished (It's a 4 gig file).

Is the error after you've downloaded it and try to open it? or is it when you try to download it?

Dropbox doesnt allow files more than two gigs so I've been experimenting with others.

I agree it's super difficult to find so go ahead, its open to anyone!, theres a MEGA and a GoogleDoc link above. The Mega seemed to have had an error but I havent heard back about the googledoc link so try both and let me know!
I'm unable to upload it to dropbox specifically bc the file size is too large.
One day I'll put this in a working public place...one day.

I did find it on a streaming website, but the site wants a credit card and other users claimed it was fraudulent, so I was like... hmm, better not. :/ I just started the download... but it looks like it's going to take a little while. I'll let you know if it works, thanks so much!!

I'm downloading from the GoogleDoc one... if it doesn't finish before I go to bed, I may stop and try it again tomorrow or Saturday since I'll probably have to let my computer sit and work through it for a few hours, haha. It's not giving me an estimated download time, so we'll see what happens. I really enjoy old noir-type films... so I'm glad you've shared this!

I left my computer running all night... it was downloading fine when I went to bed, but when I got up it said there was an "unknown network error" and it hadn't finished downloading. :/ Is there any way you could upload them in separate parts?

hmm possibly, I guess I could make separate rars with the video file and the subtitle file? but I'm not sure how long that will take to upload and if it will work. I wasnt the one who uploaded it to google docs originally but I guess I could try?
Are you sure your internet was connected the entire time, I had something similar when uploading overnight, it never finished bc my internet disconnected at some point. But I'll start compressing them into individual archives then.

I may try the first one you gave to see if it would work... I guess it could have been an internet connection issue, but I don't think there's any way to keep my internet from disconnecting at least once during the four hours, haha. I never dreamed it would be this difficult to find a movie.

OH awesome! When using VLC (which if you don't have I highly recommend getting) you right click on the film, hover over subtitle track and select track 1.

yeah, i recommend learning a bit of simple Russian (you know greetings and basic words like "good" etc) bc that's whats usually missing.
To be honest I had to watch it through twice to fully understand it XD

I'll have to agree with you it's a bit clouded but my guess is they knew each other is Risa/Latvia before they came over to germany. Idk usually I just look out for signs and such in the background to try and work out where they are because it doesnt really point it out XD.
XD well "хорошо/kharasho" means good and "как/kak" means how how there's a few more words I can name off the top of my head XD I've only dabbled in studying the language bc I'm learning german at school :/

I'd try to read the signs, but... I can't understand them either. xD Same with the letters/notes and the conversation with the deaf couple. It's agonizing not knowing what it says. I probably should be able to catch those couple words though... I mean, some of them I can figure out what they mean and when they're using a greeting, even if I don't know what greeting it is. I really wish I could speak other languages. It would make it a whole lot easier.

What is throwing me off is the literal translation from Russian to English and the fact that sentence structures are not the same. And the whole cultural context thing too. But it's kind of fun to figure out what they're saying, especially when random words that totally don't make sense are tossed in. The only other language than English that I know at least a little of is Spanish... and I was terrible at it in school, so I don't think there's much hope for me, haha.

Yeah, I don't think there's any other subtitles out there other than those one. I mean, I found other ones but I'm ninety percent sure that they are the exact same. I mean, the movie was hard enough to find, I'm just happy I have that now. xD
