this is so bitter sweet but so cute at the same time. It's now even more sad now since the 118th anniversary of Oswald Boelckes death is coming up.

Lothar... Lothar von Richthofen? OMG, I love you. As a kid I was immensely interested in the WWI air war. Not for Manfred von Richthofen, but I was oddly obsessed with his little brother, Lothar 'The Butcher' von Richthofen. I was just browsing through your accounts because... well... Loki. But then I found so much German and Russian history that you pretty much hit half my obsession buttons. I study war and war origination.
But anyway, I love this depiction of the Flying Circus. Thank you for sharing it!!!

From what I can gather, the middle is Manfred and Lothar's to his right, but I'm trying to figure out the others! Is that Kurt Wolff in the scarf? And who are the other two? Perhaps Karl Shafer and Karl Allmenroeder..?? I'm trying to piece it together based on who had a Pour le Merite and who died before the war (I assume that the sixth Pour le Merite is Udet's, though he himself isn't there?)

I agree that plain text emoticons are usually so much better at conveying the emotion you want. But here's a tip: preview your messages before you send them to make sure no accidental emoticons sneak in there.
