If lighting is "optimal" and the background reasonably decent; then APPLE's iPhone can deliver great results. This image was taken with my old 5S. I'm a strong advocate for iPhone photography supporting PRO DSLR cameras. A smart photographer becomes proficient with all their resources.
Many people trying to photograph in "overly dark" or "extremes of harsh light" get bad images. Also, the internal flash can bounce (reflect) off walls and create "red" eyes. I try to use ambient light whenever possible. Several 3rd party APPS offer (M) manual settings, allowing the user to set WB, ISO, F-Stop and Shutter.
