Description It all started with an idea to add a TV to the deep thoughts sculpture (thanks ~chaostic2k1 [link] )

I built the small TV, then looking at it, I decided it would work better as a head ah-la Fooly-Cooly.

I'm in a somewhat emotional swing in my life at the moment, so I tend to make more philosophical sculptures..

The clouds are a welded wire frame with rice paper modpoged on. The wire supporting the clouds is somewhat thiner than I usually use, and it makes them springy. They wave around with the smallest bumps. Its why the clouds are a little blurred... they were moving. ...

I used a small flux core welder on the low setting. Just tapping the joints with the welder.

What did you use to weld it together with?

Hmm. Like loard Canti, you should add a pair of removable wings. Maybe in his hand or at his feet.

Speaking of Canti, time to load up the FLCL dvds again

maybe a set of wings that hang over the shoulders. I can solder them out of copper...

^__^

Speaking of soldering, can you solder aluminum?

erm.. not easily. Its a mater of the alloys needed in the solder material to bind to the aluminum. None of them melt that easily or at a low enough temperature to make it posible. You usually have to weld it or glue it somehow.

Welding .00987 inch thick aluminum doesn't seem like a feasible idea, especially since the sheets I'm working with are just 5x7" and are cut down from that size. Spending the time/money to learn and get welding equipment won't do.

Either I need to go with gorilla glue or epoxy, or make one of those pencil lead + microwave primary mini welders.

You could also just rivet it together. at the thickness you are talking about, it would not be hard.

What I am working on right now wouldn;t look right with rivets. Plus with that thickness, just bending it leaves it very fragile and easy to break off, so one miss placed hammer blow and I'd have to start from scratch. I'm going to try epoxy first.

OK. Sand the surface pretty well first so the epoxy can grab it. Should work fine as long as its not structural.
