Also a fan of low key images. Beautiful model and interesting pose. The almost square crop does not complement or add to the dynamic of the pose. The image is also tightly cropped, leaving little head room. This technique can be used effectively when the artist is going for a sense of tension. To me, low key generally means high contrast. This shot appears to be captured in a low light setting and the speckling this shadows makes it seem as if the Β tones have been brought back with post work. It is definitely moody. Using a gridded light will help to produce the high contrast in the shadows and highlights.

I really like the low light setting.

it's beautiful how the soft shapes are sculptured by the smooth balance between shadow and light.
I'm not sure whether a more...natural and a bit less "arty" pose would have suit the composition better (if her left arm for instance were more relaxed),
but to be honest.... I wouldn't be the first person that I would ask about that.
It's a very lovely study. No matter what.
I'd only be curious to know what the update was, because I do not know the prior version.

The update wasn't the file itself.Β  Just the way it was displayed.Β  It wasn't showing at original size (the download would always have been exactly the same as thisΒ  - I don't upload very large files except for prints).

I'm glad you like it.

As for the arm?Β  I'm not really sure why it's the way it is.Β  What you can't really see in the picture is that she was sitting on a rehearsal block covered in black felt and leaning pretty far back with no support.Β  Her hand can't go any lower.Β  I'm pretty sure it probably has something to do with the pose she was doing right before this one.Β  I don't know off the top of my head how she was posed right before this.Β  It seems pretty natural to me, but I was there and knew what was hidden in the shadows.Β  So I might have a different impression than someone who sees the floating illusion.

thanks a lot for taking the time to explain where "it all" came from
and I really don't want to over-analyse this beautiful scene.
It was just something that came to my mind. And sometimes I am typing down my thoughts in comments.
After all, I see a beautifully captured moment of beauty.
That's at the end what counts.

Love the lighting and pose, and that you left the natural crease at her lower abdomen.
