Description I made this as part of my application to work for Madman. I redrew the characters for the front and used fonts to match or match closely to the original plus I used the titles from the 2 separate animes as the subtitles for this all in one package as opposed to "Scrape your Knuckles/ Catch some Tails." On the back another redrawing I've done, this time of Sonic from the next gen game. Included is my best guess of the logos that Madman themselves would have to paste on the package to give props to the respective companies. Also I have placed an M rating as would be suited to the movie if it were re-dubbed to include all the choice words that the die hard fans prefer to hear.

Is anyone else wondering why an 06 render was used for a Classic movie? No? Okay...

It's a much of a muchness, really. In Japan, they refer to Dr. Robotnik as "Eggman" (which is becoming more common in the west, now) They also say "Mecha", instead of "Metal" over there. In the movie, Metal/ Mecha Sonic is refered to as "Hyper Metal Sonic", in some scenes.

That looks great, but the M-Rating is going a bit to far... Maybe a "Recommended for teens" would be better...

In Australia M implies that teens between 12 and 15 would be the recommended audience.

Oh, okay. In that case, it completely makes sense.

Thanks for the comment, Anuranjan. I would have gone for something a lot faster and in your face, though as it was for a job application, I wanted to make a bit of a one sided compromise between my own personal touch and the original design that Madman would recognise. The compromise being more on their side as the job requirement would be that I follow other's instruction until I am given my own freedom as I still have not been employed in any such field.

I did manage to replace the laser cross hatch lines from the original cover with the more suited tile styles seen in older Sonic games, though tilted on the same angle as the laser lines. The other personal touch was the retrace of Next-Gen Sonic on the back to sort of bring a fresher look to it all.

Perhaps if Madman DID hire me and re-liscenced the DVD, I would have done a very different DVD Sleeve AND I would ask them if I could re-dub the voices to match the original japanese dialogue. :S

Your Most Welcome! I appreciate that you have knowledge of how design might get effected with the compromise of designers own desires. And knowing that fact AFTER your kind explanation, I hope the 'Madman' Understands the way 'I have' and hires you. Good luck!
