Zhang Yue wears a gentle face, though he walks with a sense of dignity and gives off sort of an intimidating air. In actuality, he just follows what everyone expects him to be, so he works hard in order to please them.

He's polite - addressing everyone as either Mr, Miss, Mrs, Sir or Madam. Most of the people he communicates with are just customers of his family's restaurant. Being respectful to them is his duty. This doesn't necessarily mean that Zhang is comfortable with interaction. They're all just acquaintances to him.

On the surface, Zhang seems like a confident young man and he tries to keep up this image although on the inside he's scared of facing the real world in terms of finding himself and contributing to the world. He doesn't find many things interesting and he's afraid that he doesn't have his own genuine personality. He does not open up to others very often and tries to refrain from voicing his opinions in caution of possible conflict.

Zhang's attitude towards being born a Royal is indifferent.
He just sees it as another responsibility that he has no other choice but to accept.

Relationship with Essence:

Currently, Zhang is more open around Bai, although initially it wasn't like that. Even though he's sort of a masked character that doesn't particularly enjoy anything, he feels that he has the most fun around her and that she brings out his potential personality. He likes teasing her to get even the smallest reactions out and often compliments her spontaneously just to see her blush.

He doesn't mind if Bai is clinging onto him when they're alone, but in the presence of others (especially older people) he'll try to put a little distance between them, but to no avail, she clings onto him anyways.

He wants her to be more independent yet at the same time he secretly wants her to be with him all the time. Usually, when someone speaks to Bai, she usually whispers what she wants to say into Zhang's ear for him to communicate for her. Because he wants her to be more independent, he'll try to make her say it herself and stay completely silent for some time. If she's being stubborn, he'll voice something different from what she wanted him to say.

The Zhang family owns a restaurant that is well known, not only for their special Eight Treasures tea, but also the way that the tea is served. The head of the household is the only person that is allowed to serve the Eight Treasures tea and is performed using a long-spouted water pot - the main attraction of the restaurant. At a young age, the successor must go through rigorous training in order to acquire the skills needed to perform the ceremony. During the time that the successor is in training, he works at the restaurant as one of the waiters.

Along with the long-spout water pot training, Zhang Yue was doubled with the responsibility of being a Royal and therefore he had to use that training in the summoning of his Essence. By that time (age 13) his skills were not quite polished yet and some complications occurred during the summoning ceremony.

Because he was always either training, working, or studying, Zhang Yue didn't have much free time and never had the pleasure of making what most children had - a best friend or even just a friend. He hoped for a familiar that would be someone like a best friend to him, someone completely opposite of him, carefree and fun. In his mind he pictured an older brother-type figure. As stated earlier, his performance skills were not yet at their height, which led to his familiar to turn into something other than what he thought was ideal.
Instead Zhang's Essence turned out to be a young female who hid from him and didn't speak much at first. The only thing that he made out before she shyly made her way back into her tea pouch was that her name was Bai.

Even though Bai was different from what he had intended, Zhang was still curious about his new Essence and attempted to befriend her by doing small things such as leaving food out, or setting aside an area in his room for her. She hid a lot, but he noticed many of things about her and slowly understood her behaviours.
Well aware of the fact that Zhang was a Royal, his parents still valued their family traditions with the restaurant more. By age 18, the successor should take over, and keep the long-spout tradition going, but in order to inherit the position as head of house, he must be married. Zhang spent a lot of time trying to lure Bai out of her tea bag, and his parents often times became upset because he would be late for his training. They thought he was spending to much time on Bai and warned him that she was an Essence and not an applicable bride. He spoke up and simply stressed that he was only trying to befriend her and brought up the point that a Royal and his Essence should be on friendly terms in order to be able to battle properly.
They realised this and temporarily let it slide for the time being, but quickly set up several meetings with plenty of eligible females in preparation.
Through a series of events, Zhang and Bai's relationship grew closer. (Read more [link] )

Although Zhang is good at serving and unintentionally capturing the attention of many people at the restaurant, his one-on-one interactions with others is severely lacking. He doesn't quite know what to do/how to talk to the suitresses and always has his familiar clinging to him which makes them uneasy, pissed off and/or come to the conclusion that he's different than they thought. On the other hand, he doesn't take any interest in them at all. This causes a hindrance in Zhang's ability to become the head of the house.
