Description The Grey Wolf (Canis Lupus)

This picture was taken in a national park in the northern part of Sweden, With a Nikon D700 and a Nikon 400mm lens F2,8 and a Nikon TC-17E II teleconverter.

The Alpha male and female did not show any signs of being afraid of me , This picture was taken max 25 meter from me and they just stood and looked me right in the eyes i accentually stop taking pictures to look at them it was very intense.. Even do i know wolves are no dangerous its very your hart is raising when you are this close to to big wolves

Just a question ^.^ How could you tell they were Alpha Male and Female? I think I may know the answer, but just curious.

While Males have more Coat on them, you can mostly tell because of their neck fur.

Females have less fur on their neck and lower parts, defining you know it's a Female.

Also, Females have more Pointed ear tips than Males.

It's strange because you can see they are accessing you with curiosity, rather than fear. It may end up not being good for them in the long run to lose their fear of humans, but they seem more interested in looking at you than interested in stalking you at least.

I agree with you they are curious but very unsure and frightened at the same time i have allot of pictures in my gallery were the wolfs have their tail between their legs, and i do this max 2 times a year so they dont associate humans with food

Hmm i once heard that looking larger dogs directly in the eyes is a bad idea because it provokes them and can lead them to attack you, however i'm not sure if it applies to wolves as well. Since you are still alive to show us this excellent shot, i gues it didn apply to those two. Really amazing picture!
Especially the left one seems to have a bit of a inviting/soothing/friendly smile on his face <3 Very great!

PictureByPali In reply to kessir [2011-03-22 13:25:24 +0000 UTC]

well that's almost the truth it is a sign of aggression to look strait in dogs and wolf eyes but it can also be a signal to the dog/wolf that you dont fear him showing weakness is not always good

Thank you so much for your comment
