Description Villnöss/Funes Valley, Dolomites, Alps, Italy

"Geislerspitzen/Le Odle"

The abandoned hut of a shepherd. This is a beautiful meadow with a spectacular view onto to "Geislerspitzen/Le Odle" mountains range overviewing the entire valley. Though weather is not at its best the atmosphere was worth taking a photo.

Panorama from three verticals.

It's beautiful. I have a bit of a weakness for mountains, perhaps because I live in the prairies. All I know is that whenever I'm vacationing close to/in the Rockies I take far too many pictures, and not nearly as wonderful as your shot here is.

Thanks a lot!!
Mountains are just wonderful. Though it's really challenging to photograph in the mountains due to the big distances it is one of the best landscapes to photograph in. Normally there is this wild and rough atmosphere which I really like for my photos. You've to consider so much things like planning your tour concering places and outlook, time, weather and especially light. I made the experience that sometimes in the mountains light is not at all as expected. Very often the sun hides really early behind peaks and hills and light is gone. You've big advantage if you know the area in which you photograph.

Nice weekend

Thank you Drew!
I used it in almost every shot included here. But it is a ND8 gradual not a normal ND8.

Nice picture of a great landscape. I think, we had the same teacher to love this valley!
There is the exact place? It seems to be on the "Günther Messner Steig".

Mensch.
Traumhaft dort oben!

Greetings!
I had the pleasure to be on hiking tour with him. It begans with the daily view from the balcony to the mountains. On the end of our holiday I remarked, that it must be a dream to climb to hte top of the geissler. The answer: Its not a dream, we can go next year. Its a wonderful experience to hike and climb with somebody who really loves "his" valley.

Breathtaking. You are so blessed to live relatively close to such places. I would never want to leave.
It's nice to have you back.

Thanks a lot. Well relatively near...1000km, spent holiday there. But in fact I always don't want to leave from there. I'm sure you do have such places in the USA too.

I guess some people would say we have places like that; The Grand Canyon for one. But I don't know, I've never felt like I wanted to not leave when I've visited there. Here in California, we do have The Sierra Nevada mountain range, and it's pretty amazing. Colorado, Utah, Montana, Washington all have gorgeous mountains, but I've not seen any like you have captured.

I guess I know what you mean. The italian Dolomites (part of the Alps) are a very special mountain range which differ a lot from the conventional alpine mountain formations.
But I'd love to see the rocky mountains once!!

You're very young yet...and if you really and truly want to see the Rockies, then you will.

That's what I hope! And when I'm 100 years and haven't seen the Rockies then my last journey will be to the rockies, hehe
