i finished it this morning, around 2 am. LOLOL. i am terrible to my body. i will definitely try to sleep earlier now.
I am very satisfied with the result. there might be some details i want to work on but i think i'll just leave it as it is. My challenge was trying not to let the colors clash too much. i wanted them to blend and bring the piece together.
i think i like pokota and xellos the best. i don't know why but they just kinda stand out (i'll put wallpapers featuring the two ;D)
enough whining! to the actual work! (click for full-size. beware, it's huge)
this was a lot of work. so many layers and so many details! some of it was done spontaneouly, like the fireflies and the green herb wall design. i like how i colored zel/mad hatter *o*.
i love lina's little crown. it's just sitting up there, being gold and shiny.
i feel bad that i didn't draw gourry big enough
i didn't intend to make him so small, but i think i ran out of room for him.
the floor tiles came out rather weird. first they bulge up then down, then up again. next, i was debating whether to make it red/black or red/white tiles. i ended up with red/yellow tiles cos they matched rather nicely. i didn't want blue or green cos amelia was blue and pokota was green,
now i want to do more fairy tale related fanarts! ^o^"

hmmm while it is true I'm a Z/A fan, I didn't intend this to be Z/A centric. I just thought Lina didn't really suit the Alice's character, considering her temper. Pokota was my choice for the white rabbit after considering his appearance and apparent restless personality. Although, i think amelia would chase anyone if they appeared out of nowhere.
You do have a good point about Martina, but I don't think Lina would appreciate that. LOL
I agree with you on Gourry, his role is rather small. I wanted a bigger role for him but i couldn't think of anything. nothing's perfect, right?
Haha, Zel's role as the Mad Hatter is rather weird. The only connection i can make is his love for tea (and/or cofee) and a nack for obsession. And, there's a fandom about the Mad Hatter and Alice pairing, so i figured it'd be alright to jump on that idea to support's Zel's role as mad hatter. (so, mad hatter/alice = Z/A)
to tell you the truth, the colors were hard to choose and if i might add, not perfect. pokota's color was a bit tricky since i wasn't sure if he was white or light green. Zel's clothes are mostly green because i wanted to keep it close to the original Mad Hatter's outfit. Xellos's case is the same with Zel's, i wanted to keep him close to the original Chesire cat in appearance, so he will come out mostly purple. Xellos's scene is nighttime because that's how the Chesire cat appeared. I did want to make Xellos rather invisible, like he blends with the background, because that's what the chesire cat was good at, if i'm not wrong.
HAHA, i have to say, that was my goal: to contrast the the two sides, one rather dark and the other rather bright.

it's interesting to know how different our choices are. i do know some might not agree with me, but that's part of art and expression. you can't please everyone.

Indeed. I am not disapointed with the characters ellections you did, I'm just a little surprised by what you did, because it's just unusual. Yeah, Xelloss must be the Chessire cat, but Amelia as Alice, even if you didn't try to make a very obvious ZA pic, or just Ame fan, makes it clear. Common-standar fans would portrayed Lina as Alice, and perhaps the rabbit as Gourry, even if Lina's character fits better the Ween of Hearts role.
I read "Alice in Wonderland" long ago, so I dodn't remember what color was his jacket, hat and such, but if it's green and Queen of Hearts is red, then it makes clear what colors you must choice for the pic. Pokota might be more white, but I guess if you would do that, then the result wouldn't be a clear red-green mix.
Gourry's role is hard to put; sure, he should be related with Lina, so the AS card is a good choice for him, thus a more prominent role (for example, the Crazy Hare) woldn't fit that conexion.
I didn't know about that Alice/Mad Hatter fandom, though

You have a point. A really hard-core fan would put Lina as Alice since it's what "canon". I don't know about gourry since his role was pretty much left to debate
no worries, i had to search in google for the references of the outfits from the original Alice in wonderland.
i guess pocota should be whiter since he is the "white rabbit". but i'm wondering if and additional color to the green background might contrast things too much? i'm not sure bit it could have been done
