So these two guys have had a bit of an redesign. Though most of the changes were made on Aqua, who needed proportion changes. I really think this makes him much easier to draw. An overall simplicity overhaul. So now I'll be more motivated to draw them in comic's and such.
So what also was on my mind was the thought of how Aqua and Glimmer met.

270 years ago Aquamarine was a high ranking gem aristocrat. His young age caused Aquamarine a motivation of needing to prove himself. Even if he was an aquamarine he wasn’t willing to ride that easy life style, more out a want for gratification than for actually learning what it takes to be the best. Aquamarine was so obsessed with earning more praise that as soon as another gem had started showing their potential Aqua felt threatened and needed to take quick action. Even going so far as to higher mercenary gems to make this gem in question "disappear".
It took very little time for Aquamarine to be caught for his foolishness and needless to say it was humiliating. He was stripped of his rank and position, poofed, and put in a cell along side an off-color golden bismuth. Since Aqua had a few days before his case was brought in court (as well as not having much else to lose), he had a lot of time to finally speak to the off-color.
Gold Bismuth told on how he'd hidden away from homeworld after emerging. Created thinner and weaker than your average bismuth, as well as blind due to his gem placement and unable to shape-shift his hands into tools, Gold was smart enough to know he didn't have long before someone would realize that he was far from useful. though blind, Golden Bismuth manage to stay undetected for years alongside other off-colors. Hidden deep in the kindergartens. Golden was found when he'd sacrificed himself for one his off-color family.
Aquamarine wasn't the most respectful the bismuth's tale but understood that they were in no better a position. Heck the young gem plotted to end up where he was. Now Aqua was paying for it. He deserved this... but.... Aquamarine didn't want this to be the end. One could say he was frighten at the shear prospect of not-existing.
So maybe he was being quite pathetic when the bismuth deciding the need scoop up the small hyperventilating gem in his arms. The large even had the audacity to tell him, that everything was gonna be okay.
...
Aquamarine didn't remember what happened next but when he regenerated, he was in a ruby ship, in a new form, with the same (all be it stressed out) off-color bismuth. Aquamarine, of course, took the time to scold Golden for destroying his physical form. Also for out right fleeing homeworld, but he didn't say anything about going back, because well... What was there to go back to? So might as well keeping moving forward.
