Here, at last, is my entry for the Sushi Dogs' Summer Vacation DTA (2017) . I'm new to this whole closed species thing, and sushidogs were the first to catch my eye. They're such a creative specie, especially the fact that their designs are based off of foods (I think). When I saw that there was event taking place, I thought that I must join so that I can have a chance to earn my very first sushidog/cat.
This is an entry for Coconut Lavender Lemonade. She is such a beauty! Her (I think female) design is just stunning and what stood out the most, in my opinion, was her tail. I'm in love with the dripping/melting effect and the color gradient. The color change on the tail, where it turns from blue to green to yellow, is one of my favs. It definitely gives me the mouthwatering sensation of lemonade, hence the colors of lime and lemon.
I tested the background many times before I became satisfied with this result. At first I had a bright blue sky but then I changed it into a sunset because sunsets generally give a pleasant vibe at the beach. I included Shark Smores Pops in the background as well as a crab and several umbrellas to make the bg seem more like a beach. Shark Smores Pops is really cute also so I might make another entry for him/her. The toughest part was probably drawing the splashing effect of the water. It wasn't easy incorporating the translucency and the splashes to make the water seem authentic. This drawing took about 5-10 hours and is my very first artwork using Paint Tool Sai. It was really fun experimenting with the tools and such. I was thinking of submitting this later in the month but I think there's not much to change/add. I'm super happy of how this came out, especially the sky and the sushicats, and I hope you guys will like it as well!
