A lot of people feel that the lotus represents life. The lotus grows from the mud and becomes something beautiful. People generally get the tattoo as a symbol of over coming great adversity. So the symbol represents the struggle of life at its most basic form.

I don't think the tribal is too small. I think the lotus should be the focus of the design, not the tribal. I like it just as it is!
