Heidi Turner’s surname makes so much more sense now after her arc in Season 20 and 21. Throughout the series, she changes in looks, personality, and importance; she was a generic background character, then a main character with development, and finally demoted back to extra.

Heidi’s transformation into a female Cartman highlights the darker aspects of several characters who are/were in similar situations to her own.

Heidi and Wendy are both clever girls who held feelings for Cartman, and are the only girls in the school to wear hats. However, Heidi represented what Wendy could have become if the latter stayed with Cartman long enough for his influence to corrupt her. Wendy was able to resolve her emotional tension and retain her confidence by herself, but it took a cold retort from Kyle for Heidi to realize her mistakes and end her abusive relationship.

Heidi and Butters are sweet and innocent compared to most kids in South Park, and they are/were very close to Cartman, being the few who address him as Eric. But while Butters’ naïveté is a positive trait in that he is able to keep his self-identity even under constant manipulation, Heidi’s is a flaw and allowed Cartman to easily trick her into changing her diet.

Heidi and Female!New Kid have contrasting relationships with Cartman. Heidi’s was romantic, whereas New Kid’s was a teacher-student bond. Cartman went out of his way to earn New Kid’s loyalty, while Heidi approached him after quitting social media. The way the relationships fell apart also differ; it was Heidi’s own pride that she ended up hurting herself and Cartman, but New Kid lost respect for him when he betrayed her and kidnapped her parents. However, New Kid allows him back by her side again, while Heidi stays away from him as possible.

Most importantly, Heidi turned into a shadow of her old self. She was a happy, healthy, and kindhearted girl who became an angry, fat, and cruel bitch. “Splatty Tomato” made this absolutely clear when everyone went through all the important locations that Heidi had been up to her relationship with Cartman. She struggled between her old and new personality before finally working up the courage to break up with Cartman for good.
