Here are the roses of my, and my mom's, childhood. They smell absolutely amazing, I've never been able to find it replicated in rose-scented products (though some come close) and Mom has always told me that they're perfume roses used to make Rose Water (can't verify that online though). Here's the wikipedia link about them: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_%27…

An abridged story:
When Mom was little, Grandpa had a gardening route in east Los Angeles. He took cuttings from a rosebush from one of the homes to grow his own and planted them in the yard. When they moved they moved the rosebush with them. Then when that house sold Mom dug it up herself and continued moving the plant to three more homes. Before the third move, one of my grandma's business associates took cuttings from the rose, as she collected antique roses, and when she moved she couldn't take the rose with her and returned it to Grandpa.

When mom moved from Northern California back to Southern California she couldn't take the bush with her, either. It wasn't until our second move that Grandpa brought us more cuttings from the original plant, and when we moved to Arizona we took more cuttings with us, leaving us with four bushes today each at twenty years old.

Phew! This plant has sure traveled!

What a fabulous story!  I can't imagine leaving them behind at another house when they have so much history!  The soft pink is so lovely and it's quite amazing how much more wonderful the roses bred for scent actually are.  Commercial roses grown for bouquets are beautiful, but don't smell anything like this

Awww thanks kitty, I'm so happy to see this impressing you. Perhaps one day we'll have a real life get together and I'll bring a couple buds along.

Love how the same description has been moved to each picture which has a different perspective.
