Yeah! He loves her so much than he wants to admit. That's why when she gone to Africa to give birth and left definetly the pirate life, he felt on depression and he became addict to the opium )':
Fortunatelly, and after many difficulties, Ainara helps him to overcome his addiction and his suffers

How did Ainara help him overcome is addiction and suffering? By him becoming a sort of mentor to her, and seeing her as family?

In that moment Ainara also suffer a lot when Mafani's gone, because she saw her as an older sister, a mentor and her friend on the ship. Ainara knew how much Victor love her and she couldn't avoid to see her captain in such condition. She tried several times to confrontate him and in one day he attemps to shoot himself, Ainara tried again to convince him. After a strong discussion he hits her. After this Ainara accept he won't her help and she left him to his fortune. Victor realized about what he was doing, and decided to throw the gun. Days later Ai's found him on the port. After this their relation was a little bit better than the other moments, but they mostly aren't agreed with the other. They love to Mafani was their link. <3

He HITS her? He hits a kid? I know pirates are mean, but I figured there were certain rules they'd follow! Even if he does get emotional and angry.

Oh! Victor has many conflicts with himself. He wanted to hit her since the first day she aboard the ship. He don't see the child on Ainara, he just see her as a member of the crew, a person of that he contract for work. Aboard, Mafani take care of her and protect her because she has kind heart but she understand that Ainara choosen a pirate life and Mafani treat her in both way, as a member of the crew and as a child. Victor don't. When he hits her, the picture of Mafani comes to his mind, and remember about the care she gives to Ai, and he realized about he done. Tha's why when she found him on the port they made peace on their way. :3

I can imagine someone bringing up her current pirate-like behavior to her, saying, "If you help with murdering people and stealing the treasure, you're no child!"
I hope one day your world can be turned into an animated movie! You put a lot of thought into the characters, flesh out their details with these pictures that look like screenshots from a movie, and I just can imagine this in my head as being a movie.
