Description The Guild of Maintainers (also known as the "Maintainers Guild", or simply the "Maintainers"), was one of the most important of the D'ni Guilds. They fulfilled several functions including safety, security and military in regards to Linking Books and Age Exploration. The guild crest is an open book with an unblinking eye above it, and the guild color was burgundy.
Once an Age's writing was deemed suitable, a Maintainer linked to the Age using an Environmental Verification Suit, or EV Suit for short, to verify the Age's stability.
The other role of the Maintainers Guild were similar in nature to modern day police and military. They were the only guild (as far as we know) permitted regular access to weaponry, such as rifles and pistols (although citizens could access daggers). It was the Maintainers who investigated crimes, captured the criminals and when tried, imprisoned them appropriately. A majority of these criminals would be sent to a prison controlled solely by the Maintainers.
The Maintainers owned numerous Ages. One such Age, written exclusively for the Maintainers, was Gahreesen, which appears to have been a mix of both training and prison facilities.

This is a D'ni Desk Light that could very well be imagined sitting in the work space of a D'ni Maintainer. It is 10 inches tall, 7 inches wide and 3 inches deep with a convex dome that lights up, displaying the Guild of Maintainers emblem. It is powered by 3 AAA batteries in lieu of fire marbles.

And within 12 hours of being up for sale, it has SOLD.

Way cool! Maintainers Guild has always been my favorite. They were totally epic. This piece, like them, is also pretty epic.

Thank you kindly!

It's items like these that I wish that I could properly do in larger numbers.

Thanks, Luv!

I'm working on another one that has a different base, but the same lighting effect. I'll post it here when it is done.

As for "golden hands", I think they are more of a Dutch Boy pale flesh tone. But it's not always what you got, but how you use it. Right? LOL

That's a cool piece. Could a Maintainer read comfortably by its light, or is it more like a nightlight?

Thanks!

It's more like a night light. Even Maintainers sometimes need a little comfort in the dark.

You're welcome!

Yeah I think so too, have you thought about making more? Or different styles?

I'll likely be doing more "one-offs" in various styles, since it is so challenging to find similar pieces.

I think that would be less hard, you know? Not as much stress with finding/making exact parts. Or, if you are up to it, sculpt out/make molds of parts that are hard to find/construct.

Just a thought.

Stop coming up with awesome ideas. You might hurt yourself.(Thanks, though!)

The molds idea has worked well in the past for cool, little texture bits. If some unique piece can be molded, I'm all for that!! I definitely does save time and, often, money. But the pieces have to be fairly easy to mold. One-sided is often the best. Small is ideal. Large metal parts, or bulky objects like the lamp base, are a little trickier.

But we are definitely on the same creative page!!

Yeah, I can see with the base, and you have to have adequate air "vent" thingies...I forgot what they are called. (I don't do things like that, but tend to read about it)

Unless you can sculpt the base out of paperclay or something durable to make a mold, then fill the mold to make a cast. I also saw you could buy those plaster cloths. cut up those sheets, wet 'em and lather them into general forms, and sand away.

LOL I am sorry, that is my critical thinking thing going on. I

wow, I would love to be the one who got this! My only quibble would be that that's the Maintainer logo, not the writer.

Thanks for the compliment!!

You are more than welcome to share it on your MAEA Facebook page!

It's a one-of-a-kind piece, having spent the last year in limbo, waiting to discover its purpose and meaning within the D'ni culture. It is already sold and will find a home on a modern-day Guild Writer's desk soon!!

Thanks, Sweetie!

The "lamp" base had been sitting for almost a year, waiting for it's purpose to be discovered. Then I was taken by a muse. The rest is ancient D'ni history!!

BTW, I've just re-applied for some part-time work and an hoping for night stock. Talk me up and wish me luck!!

Thanks!

I was tempted to make it more gilded, but I really became enamored with the aged look of the handles and base trim. I'm rather surprised that my light effect actually is working. Electronics have never been my strong suit.

Thanks for the !!
