Hi peeps, since i've been woprking with samurai themes in my work a lot lately and done a lot of moodboarding and research then I decided to go for AC Red with my attempt at the december Trent Kaniuga challenge. The rumour has it that AC Red might be centered around the famous Daisuke(Japans one and only black Samurai) and im going along with this rumour since it places us in a very interesting time of the sengoku periosd Japan. Daisuke according to some sources, was a retainer under Oda Nobunaga, the would be unifier and ruler of Japan.. At this time there was a lot of not entirely legal trade and missionary work coming over from europe(TEMPLARS!).With Nobunaga training his army in the use of rifles to a great sucess (basically ruined the great Takeda clan in one battle) whe a a precedent that Nobunaga and most importantly Akechi Mitsuhide were making deals with the templars (guns for influence) and the assasins were trying to stop them. Here we have the Honnō-ji incident, where Mitsuhide famoulsy betrayed Nobunaga and killed him when his armies were occupied elswere(pershaps a templar plot to ovethrow Nobunaga and install Mitsuhide as a puppet ruler?). So Daisuke was most likely present at this time and therefore could have been easily involved as an assasin, maybe not in avenging his master but helping Tokugawa Iyeasu(at this time allied with Nobunaga) escape unharmed to mikawa following Mitsuhides betrayal. Now with all this said, Im trying to focus on another character that is pivotal to this story - Hattori Hanzo (Hattori Masanari) or the "Demon Hanzo".
Hanzo was a mastermind of quite a few very successful espionage events and the head Ninja of the Tokugawa army, and would be the perfect head for the Japan branch of the assassins, perhaps joining them after the Nobunagas Death or even before thanks to some random assasin making it on to the shores of Japan by accident. Either way he would make a great teacher figure for Daisuke.
His design language should follow the "Demon" Theme, because of his nickname, but i don't want to do the obvious Oni(Japanese Demon) route, so i will have to work on this a bit.
