That's my sister's cat when she puts a 10" fuzzy toy halloween spider in front of her.

My cat is a Manx with a very stubby, short tail, and when it puffs up he looks exactly like a scrub brush!

Thank you so much, although I'm really just copying the originals as accurately as possible! They really nailed that garish Halloween look!

Have you been to vintagebeistle.com? I picked up a bunch of stuff this year, including some super rad jazz cats from the 20s!

Man, I was born in the 80's so I'm not sure if they were around then, but this style certainly seems familiar, and it's a style that I love Halloween in the most.
The whimsical and calm, mildly spooky antics of a world of autumn where the trees always are in Fall colors and a gentle wind blows consistently, whispering through the streets, trees and pumpkin patches every afternoon and night. Then making it's way calmly through the streets of a quiet town (city/hamlet/etc) in the evening as the sun sets gently on the horizon.
It's thoughts like that that make me remember Halloween with such loving memory. Thanks for recreating the artwork

I was a 90s kid, but my mom had these from long before that! I think their heyday may have been the late 70s, early 80s. Like you I adore the style and to this day feel like this is DEFINITIVE Halloween!

We had some of these. I remember a witch, a skull, and a devil that used to hang on my bedroom wall all October long. How I loved waking up from nightmares in the middle of the night and seeing those grinning down at me.

They're so spooky and weird but...also somehow friendly and inviting? It's an amazingly narrow line to walk and it's impressive how the nailed it again and again!

I agree. Part of it is just nostalgia but there's a part of me that loves those silly things more than the fancy modern decorations.
And did you ever own one of those plastic ghosts or witches that would light up? They were awesome too.

I vaguely recall that style of decoration, yes, though not the specific company. It does bespeak that long-ago era before Hallowe’en became Big Business—like all the other holidays—in this era of retail flailing for a grip on anything that might bring in customers.

I think it was still a big business, just not so big. It's more representative of the style and economic space that Halloween was part of. MOST folks didn't go all out for it they way we do now, so it was cheap paper and rubber decorations instead of the amazing creations that we fill our yards with in current year!

True enough! Though I think another reason people go more whole-hog these days is because costs have come down so much on modern decorations, particularly light strings. Hmm . . . Wikipedia pinpoints Beistle as starting with the cardboard flats in the 1920s, right before the Depression. I wonder if the ability to decorate on a budget was a factor in their popularity.

Who doesn't love a friendly Jack-o-Lantern? As somebody who loves cutesy Halloween stuff, I gotta say, this made me smile.
