I think her major problem is that she's the only pony that the writers CAN'T write. While any other of Mane-6 express their element randomly during the series, RD does not. THe only moments when her "loyalty" comes out are episodes meant to give her a lecture. And it's always the same scenario: She's being a jerk and a total opposite of loyalty the majority of the episode - to wake up and "uh oh, I should be loyal, shouldn't I" in the end. I must say I hate it. Loyalty has far the strongest potential and they just can't work with it, giving RD, as she's presented in the series, a bad picture. Just consider - do you remember her being loyal immediately - during episodes that were not dedicated to her? (I don't mean the moments when she can act fast while others are stunned - doing the right thing. Like saving falling Rarity and Spike)

And the "so awesome, so loved" S4 gave her the worst picture so far. Just to mention, when Discord demands to be cared for and RD is the first one to flee so she doesn't have to be the one to look after him. She should have the LAST stance, not Applejack and Rarity... And the last drop was that Trade Ya episode - RD was ANYTHING but loyal all the time, it was ridiculous, sad and outrageous for a fan of RD and loyalty in general. I would so contact ANYONE who has anything to do with this and ask WHY can't they work with her like they should. Unfortunatelly, I don't know a way.

So please note that the impression she currently gives is not fault of RDs concept but fault of the script writers. RD as she was intended would be a strong and loyal pony with moments of pride and boasting - but her loyalty should never be supressed by others and it should come to her more easy than to enyone else (maybe except the lesson episodes, if they were not all about the same lesson for her... It's kind of the same like Fluttershy, that get's the same lesson all around).
