Description Here's a partial history of medusaurs and their living relatives, the tentak, showing various examples of known evolutionary stages between and their most important features.

A project of mine which has gone further than I thought it would. All their designs belong to me! Human is taken from the Pioneer's plaque and I believe it is open source.

If there's any spelling errors I've missed, feel free to point them out, along with critique of their nomenculture would be appreciated (I'm not an expert in the slightest!).

Absolutely amazing taxonomical exploration. Could I ask, though, why would the top and bottom creatures would need such large brains?

The top creatures are somewhat based off of the idea of intelligent Cephalopods such as octopus and squid, I'll say that out of all the creatures on the page that it's the one that least fits in. The idea was that this species' ancestors had been taken out of it's natural habitat and either taken to another planet with a similar environment, or a different, closed-off sea on the same planet. This meant it had to adapt very quickly to the new environment, and as it suffered no direct competition to others of it's own taxa it could flourish and develop socially, to help it catch food which would have been more sparse. They also evolved to become omnivores, because there would have been less prey available to them. Tool use would have helped them catch prey, in things like nets and with spears.

As for the Medusaurs, again, their hunting strategies involved working in groups in many different terrains. As their "vision" does not extend as far on land as in water, they would have been at a disadvantage in being unable to see very far. They would have been slightly social creatures in water, but on land it became vital to co-ordinate their attacks and work in groups, even if the only reason was to be able to see further.

The other reason these two species are intelligent is because they play a part in a story I'm writing, and of course from a human perspective, more human-esque intelligent species are easier to write and have characters interact with!

Thank you! I'd really like to expand this idea further, add some off-shoots and maybe some rather bizzare land animals.
