Thank you. Lego is as much fun in 3D as it is in RL.

This is highly impressive - even if you don't fullview it, it still looks mighty and complicated. Truly remarkable.

This is amazing! I decided to do one too about a month ago, but I just cant figure out how to get the perfect dimensions of all the parts, even if it's possible to download the instrucions of lego.com site!

How did you do it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pixelquarry In reply to Pisci [2010-02-10 20:54:40 +0000 UTC]

I used an application called LDraw (just search for it on google) to get the dimensions right. When you import the parts into your 3D app you won't be able to do much with 'em because they're low poly and messed up but very good for reference.

okay very cool, but do I need to install that programm? or can I find ther specifications on the net?

thanks alot already

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pixelquarry In reply to Pisci [2010-02-11 10:23:46 +0000 UTC]

Well, to get your hands on the ldraw parts you have to install ldraw eventually. I'm not sure if someone put measurements of lego parts on the internet. Use ldraw it's easier & less hassle

Pisci In reply to pixelquarry [2010-02-11 12:00:00 +0000 UTC]

thanks man! very helpful, I installed it now, and it's very cool!
I just have one more quesiton. I find it very hard to find where the different types of parts are, or what they are called! any hint you could give me there?

pixelquarry In reply to Pisci [2010-02-11 12:12:09 +0000 UTC]

go to this site [link]
enter the sets' number you're looking for
get the serial number & name of each part in the set
use the search option in ldraw

there you go

It looks like the offroader uses the same door mechanism as the 8448 Street Sensation. Are those the air-pistoned 'slow-moving' spring shocks you've got behind the doors?

If so, don't leave the doors closed for too long. The ones on my Street Sensation actually broke (the spring collars broke) from the doors being left shut. I've since replaced them with plain spring shocks (the L-shaped ones you find on motorbikes).
