I find this an odd pairing, to be honest. It's strange how someone can watch the movie and get anything other than a platonic vibe from a grown man and a child. Aging up Olivia just to pair her off with Basil seems a little unusual. And I'm not criticizing you directly, as I've seen Basil/Olivia stuff on here before and elsewhere, I'm just finally speaking out in sheer puzzlement over it. XD

There are so many misconceptions about this couple and yours is an example. According to someone who works Disney and worked on this film, Olivia was 8 years old. Like you said, since she was still a child in the film, she's bound to change more drastically than Basil since he was already an adult. But I don't think you know or understand that during the Victorian era (around the time of the movie in 1897 and 25 years onward), older men usually courted and married younger women. I read somewhere that girl as young as 13 were marrying!

I know there are people who don't agree with this pairing and that's fine, that's their opinion and I respect it, but I would like for them in return to respect my opinion and what type of fandom I support. Not, jumping on anyone, but like you said, if they don't like the pairing then don't look at the picture. I've seen people saying things like, "Eww, this is gross! She's just a child!" or "He's just a perv!" Here's where I say, do have an imagination? You do? Well, so do we! And our imagination, when it comes to Basil and Olivia is that many years down the line, when she is much older she and Basil manage to end up together.

I honestly see this fandom being attacked more than people who support BasilxRatigan or BasilxDawson pairings. I'm against slash, although there's only one exception in NicoXPedro, but I don't jump those who do support it.

I wasn't complaining, just sort of wondering why this particular pairing is so popular.

# Why do some fans consider Basil and Olivia as a couple?
Well, consider everything they went through in the film and you've got your answer. The characters had great chemistry; they worked well in both conversation and interaction. It has been suggested more than once that Olivia would return to Basil in later years to see if he would propose marriage. Some may disagree and feel she was more of a niece, or the daughter that Basil never had.

an FAQ out of this great fanpage: [link]

So.. some people out there like the pairing and some doesn't. I go with the first group because I have a weakness for the BAD BAD tabu "odd" pairings sometimes. (It's just an inspiring fangirl-imagination, so why not?)
Besides that... I'm also just having much fun drawing 19/20-year-old Olivia.
