About the MOC
"Aumangea" is a Maori word.

aumangea

1. (stative) be strong, brave, persistent, determined, forceful, plucky, resilient, resolute, steadfast, tenacious.
2. (noun) advocate, campaigner, champion, promoter, proponent, upholder, supporter - a person who is strong, brave, persistent, determined, forceful, plucky, resilient, resolute, steadfast or tenacious.
Maori is the language Lego used for many of the names of early bionicle characters, some taken directly from a meaning. In the spirit of classic bionicle, I chose to use Maori for his and Tipuna's names(tipuna means ancestor, grandparent, grandmother or grandfather).

Aumangea is part of two sets, one with Tipuna
, Leebos and the Reta-Sarka-V12

Then he and the other two figures comprise half of a 6-piece set .

----------
YAY ANOTHER MATORAN MADE BY MEEEEE!
This marked my second Matoran to be built, the first being Hyderbawl

Bio
Aumangea is a bit of an odd Onu-Matoran, he doesn't prefer mining and digging like most Onu-Matoran do, yet he is still very active and strong like them. He prefers to run and jump around in a manner resembling Parkour. Unlike Onu-Matoran who are strong, but not known to be as fast, Aumangea is very flexible, agile, and aethletic much like a Po-Matoran, he takes up a sword instead of a drill like a Ta-Matoran, however, he still likes to remain underground like his Onu-Matoran brothers. He's also greatly enjoys sports. At first the Onu-matoran would make fun of him for being more like a "surfacer," but then hailed him as a champion once he became Onu-Koro's best Kohli player when he and the other Onu-Matoran were on Mata-Nui. He is known as "the stalactite slicer" for his signature trait of running up the walls of the archives or any cave, jumping and slicing down stalactites with his onyx sword.
Aumangea is part of a small tribe of Onu-matoran that accompanied Archimedes to his island where they founded their own sub-village. These Onu-Matoran survived the attack on Archimedes' island as the Kino aki overlooked the underground subsection of the village. Over time, the Onu-Matoran there started growing horns. These horns are initially white and a bone-like material, but are coated in protodermis as a ritual of honor when they excel in acts of duty, the Virtue they value the most out of the Three Virtues. Aumangea earned his "Prot-haona" when he harvested as many stalactites in a day as the entire crew that were assigned the task. Aumangea has been chosen by Archimedes to become the first Onu-Toa of his tribe. "One day, when my fight is done and I can pass on the responsibilities of being this islands protector, it shall go to you my valiant little Matoran. Then many a passing moon's time later, you shall chose one from the other tribes to carry on this great task."

Thanks for yet another critique. You know, he does look rather evil for a Matoran. I guess that could be an "asset" of his. He could trick the badguys into thinking he's on their side but isn't. I wasn't intending him to look evil, but now I'll have to give that some thought.

I know there's that one spot on the lower leg where there's the O hole that isn't filled in, but is there any other parts that seem to gappy? I think a lot of the gappiness is to allow for movement. I'm starting to think this is one of those MOCs were when you're holding it and moving it around the gaps make sense, but if you're only seeing pictures then it doesn't and seems unnecessary.

Oh wow. This is really something. I like how he seems to be very functional, while still remaining aesthetically pleasing as well. Also, dat sword The head design seems really cool, too, and looks like it allows for a good bit of customization.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Uikri [2012-04-06 09:54:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Matt. Got it right this time. That's always what I strive for, not sacrificing aesthetics or functionality. Hehe I know, black kopaka sword has to be the best thing about the stars series. Yeah, it does. With a little tweaking here and there different masks can go on it and allows room in different places for things. What I like though it using the Vahki heads makes it look like they have actual solid heads without resorting to the standard heads from the mata or metru series. And you can put it in the MOCs elemental color to.

That came from STARS? Which set, exactly? Now that's a design I'd like to see Ah, sadly I never was able to get a lot of Vahki

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Uikri [2012-04-08 00:13:22 +0000 UTC]

The Skrall Stars. Huh okay. I'll see if I can pencil in the photos for that. *is working on a comic page right now*

I ended up getting two of all of them. once as the set, and again in that ultimate creatures collection things they did for three years. It basically was six canister figures and some extra parts for 20 bucks. SHoulda got more of those in hindsight.

Yeup.

Yeah, it was advertized in the comic. They did three of those. I got the second and third one. The first one were the bohrok I think.

You know, I wouldn't even have needed to look at the name of the artist in order to know who made this xD
I already recognize your style
I like the add-ons you made on the head, because it's otherwise difficult to make a Matoran something 'special'.
But you did a good job here ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Alex-Darkrai [2012-02-27 21:48:13 +0000 UTC]

Really?! Well the MOC aside, I'm sure my style of collages is recognizable as well. But really, you think this is really recognizable as my style?
What exactly is my style?
Yeah, exactly. I wanted something different and not just another Matoran that was like the rest. It wasn't easy to figure out how to make that happen. I figured that just cause it's small doesn't mean it can't be articulate. So I started working with smaller parts to see how I could get the movement I wanted in small spaces. They're not as stable cause friction pins aren't as stable as ball joints, but it works. The small size and lack of weight helps.
Thanks Alex.

Alex-Darkrai In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2012-02-27 22:08:00 +0000 UTC]

Hmpf, maybe I should do something that way too ... I'm also only gitting bigger with my MOCs xD
Maybe I should do something smaller for once.
How to define your style?
Hmm, you're placing parts of different colors and shapes beside eachother a lot to great the look you want, I think. Your color shemes also often include more than just a few colors. Other MOCs would look weird, but you somehow make it look good and that also makes your works recognizable for me. But it's still difficult to describe.
Style is the feeling I get when I look at one artists works. This feeling is unique for every good artist.
And I have such a unique feeling when I see your works, so that's your style for me ^^"

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Alex-Darkrai [2012-02-29 16:45:51 +0000 UTC]

That's why I did that Matoran and turaga, cause 1, I don't have many and had no Turaga, and B, cause I need to work on a smaller scale more.
Ahh I see. So color scheme has a lot to do with it? I do like to be a little more open with my colors, I feel to constricted if I use just two or three colors. But sometimes that constraint is a good challenge.
Well can you describe the feeling you get from my work? With your work, its a combination of amazement, and parts envy. Then I've always got to carefully study it to see all the odd ways you've arranged the parts.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Alex-Darkrai In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2012-02-29 18:46:58 +0000 UTC]

The effects which prevail are most of all: 'I would never have thought of using that technique!' -> 'I would never have thought of using those colors!' -> 'nevertheless, I like it!'
This is because your Style is so different from mine. I feel the same about guys like retinence. I like the works, but I could never have pulled it off THAT way. The same goes for your works.
But I think that mine and Aidens style are kind of similiar ..
AND I'm often amazed by the funtions and gimmicks you give your MOCs (functions: Innenrrad; gimmicks: Mateo (He has a frickin wrist watch xD!)).
It always feels like you put a lot of thought and heart (I hope that's a saying in your language as well xD) into your MOCs, that's what I like about them as well ^^

That's a VERY unique design for a Matoran. Cool stuff. Is that a custom-painted mask, or did that Vakama mask come in some set I'm not familiar with?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to ElectricGecko [2012-02-10 08:46:28 +0000 UTC]

Thanks EG. That's what I was going for. Plus very articulate. And nope, that mask comes like that. All the 2004 Metru-Matoran had masks like that. They all have the original turaga masks but with that silver to metru colors fade. [link] <- here they are on bricklink.

Nice I particularly like the legs - looks like they have just as much movement as their full-size counterparts, if not more.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Rahiden [2012-02-08 22:49:29 +0000 UTC]

Yes they do, a little too much movement in certain situations. The legs move like regular legs do, just not in the same place. Like the knee, it rotates to give more motion. Knees don't rotate as well as bend. I think he really needs a video to fully illustrate his range of motion. I included a pic of him reaching for his sword to show that his arms are very articulate, and then the one of him "chillin" is to show off the versatility of the legs.

DarkSpireProduction [2012-02-08 13:47:01 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to DarkSpireProduction [2012-02-08 22:50:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, a bit. WIth him it was either "stick thin" or kind thick. There was no perfect balance unfortunately. I couldn't have the legs look as thin as the arms cause then he'd be a stick figure, and not look like any kind of a threat. A little too thick is better than a twig.

Wow, that's the first time I've ever really seen someone use fingers on a matoran, and well! That I can remember anyways *just woke up*

Anyways, would you mind taking care of that gap in his legs with a thin 1x2 liftarm?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Akara0820 [2012-02-08 22:59:16 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm...you know, I can't recall any that have fingers either. Hmm. Matoran always had big hands, feet and heads, their bodies and limbs were always what was short and kinda stubby, so with that in mind I felt that I had room to give him hands. And really, they're not much bigger than if I had used a socket piece and said "that's his hand."

Okay I think I know which gap you're talking about, but how did you want me to fill it?

Akara0820 In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2012-02-08 23:34:51 +0000 UTC]

Two black [link] on the front and back, with two black [link] in between them.

Just to make sure, there are two exposed axle (on the lower right leg (his left, right in the pic), an o and a +, then mirrored for the other leg).

But on further inspection, the right (his right, but left in the picture) leg seems to have a [link] on the exposed o while the other does not.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Akara0820 [2012-02-09 00:15:30 +0000 UTC]

You're right it does. I forgot to put one in the left leg. I was hoping no one would catch that, but you did. And I was thinking about putting one of those on the front, On the back it would mess with the articulation of the legs so I couldn't do that. I'll figure something out, though I'm not going to reshoot the pictures and all that for just a few or possibly even one part change so you won't really get to see it. :/
