A Gem I got from awhile backΒShe is a defected gem who formed without a mouth, ears, or a nose. She is extremely weak and easily poofed. Because of this she is very timid and paranoid.

All of them! all of them have this weird protective nature in them, particularly Jaspy. Jaspy lives to protect tbh. Hugs is way better on the emotional cuddly level, and both of them are defective and smol. Jaspy is 3 ft, 0.9144 meters I think. Hugs is 2 ft 6 inches, 0.762 meters. So they aren't too threatening size-wise when around gems that are normally sized (even if they are defective), but Jaspy in her armor may seem scary at first. She never stops smiling though and will do anything for anyone even if it kills her. A close connection to someone would be new for her though! Hugs is really scared of being alone with gems, so he'd need a really long time and mutual trust, otherwise he offers as much comfort as he can. He is very weak though.
Iolite, Aqua, and Marine are all part of a story, but it isn't set in stone or anything and is more based around each other than where/when they are (though Io and Aqua do get corrupted at one point). Io's naturally distrustful and paranoid, but would give her life to protect Aqua (and eventually Marine), so she has more than the capability to try and protect others. Marine tries really hard to comfort others emotionally, but she can definitely protect someone.
Β Everyone has a bit of a bite to them when threatened, plus most of the gems would be able to tell when a gem would need help, and they'd defend them.

I'd prefer Jaspy or Hugs up for consideration, but honestly it could be anyone!

It's okay! Ever since I tried to actually write Jaspy's backstory, I feel like Hugs' has been very lacking, so there's plenty of empty space where stuff should be for them too. XD (in fact, I delayed the note because Jaspy got plenty of paragraphs while I was being stumped on what to write for Hugs, and it seemed a bit biased that way) (still delaying it, but if you want to see it how it is so it doesn't take years, I can always send you the first draft to a very messy scatter-thought note. XD)

Mhm! I hate that. It happens every time with every group of characters I make. There's always THAT ONE that is so easy to figure out, the one that's just like 'yep, that's your story. I know everything about you. You are never complete but you are very close'. You love them all with all your heart but geez some can just be difficult. (though the payoff is probably good. I've been struggling with one particular character for about a year and if I can just crack the code to making her easier to write I will be SO HAPPY AND RELIEVED)

Yep!!! I feel ya!!! And my best part on that character I mentioned; she's the eventual girlfriend to the one of the ones that I can write really well. So they interact, they have these independent lives and just all this stuff I have to think about and for goodness sake's the first doesn't even have a solid design yet. XD They're all in a book series so there's quite a few from different groups I've made for the characters that are easy and way, way more that are tough. XD Fun but difficult.

I usually get a design down asap just because I like to have an idea of what they look like although I usually just find human refs that I think look like my charactersΒ

Mhm! I have very little experience with that stuff so it's so hard to try and make that gentle, slow friendship that eventually becomes mutual love where they are just so close on an emotional level. Especially when they are opposites and hate each other at first. XD Or when they think that they're in love before they really know each other and it just doesn't work out until they truly understand each other.
But hey, that's what the first draft is for. These are together because ... we said so. XD
