Description Take it all away
The pain and sorrow
Take it all away
For there is no tomorrow

Take it all away
The chains of this world
Take it all away
So my soul is unfurled

Take it all away
So that I can be me
Take it all away
So that I may be free

-Michael McLaughlin (plusx200)

well, everyone else has commented on this already, but i really adore this, so ill just +fav it
the colours, composition and implicit themes work wonderfully to create a very emotional piece

well when i first saw this i thought, "he's jumping..." and i looked at it more, read some of the comments and it hit me (hanging!). i do like it. very creative.

and that five second rule deal. yeah. this passes the 5second test.

Awesome. Way better than the first.

One thing I think is funny is that I didn't even realize at first that it was somebody who hanged themself... I was thinking more along the lines of alien abduction for some reason.

Anyway, I think this is a very cool treatment of the subject.

This is the first time I've seen any of your works. It definitely passed the 5-second rule, and not because it was hard to see.

5-second rule: If any piece of artwork grabs your attention and holds it for more than 5 seconds while walking by/flipping through/clicking away, it has passed the test, and has somehow brought some kind of emotion, whether good or bad, the artist has been successful.

This is definitely a hard piece to look at, because of the stark truth it shows, and that too many people become too weak to go on. They take their life in their hands, and take it all away. Sad all the same, you captured the emptiness, and the depression that comes with this subject, very well. Beautiful, in a dark way.

It's morbid, but I can almost see the body swing, and hear the rope squeaking with the weight. The rest is silence. Loud and unbearable silence. The silence that shuts everything out, and all feeling is gone---numb by shock. So much emotion in this peice. I don't know what else to say.

Shit! This brings back memories. . . . My sister ended her days hanging from the stair in an extention-wire.

You did capture something very emotional here, dear.

Good job. The change to duo-tone seems to have brought some contrast to the dangling feet, which were less of a focal point in the previous version.

I like the changes to the poem too

Much better.

This speaks volumes. The focus and DOF are amazing... absolultely perfect. Rarely do I see a photo that evokes so much emotion. Very well done.

Alright, so it's taken me MUCH too long to comment on your stuff. I REALLY enjoy your recent spur of emotion-evoking shots. They're all well composed and powerful. It's this one is NO exception. I'm really enjoying how my eyes flow into the frame. I first see the focus/blur on the footstool and think of a rumble or some sort of struggle. Then I move up and slowly realize you're not in midjump, you've been hanging for the last 51 minutes. The way we see the photo is probably how someone would first see the scene in real life; the slow realization and sad shock.
I'd say the color works well. Normally, it's an odd tone. But to me, it makes me think of early morning (2am.) And that's a lonely hour where you just realized the weight of the world upon your shoulders...etc. Always great expressions, dude...and the impressive thing is that you're creating an emotion that (as far as I'm aware) you don't actually have.

I don’t know, I much prefer the miss leading color in the first image; it is warm and peaceful as if your subject was finally free. I think I would have just separated the feet from the back ground a bit more in V1…but as you said there is know mistaking in this image. Great idea Michael.

This is very disturbing, Mike. And that, for me, makes this a great shot! It's emotional.

First reaction when I saw the thumbnail, was, hmm, a wooden thingy? Let's check it out.
And then, at full view, I saw that it was a chair, and thought, hmm, nice zoom effect, perspective and blurry background.
Tehn I recognised the feet in the background, and thought, how cool is that.
But then it got me thinking, and felt sad. Because a good friend of mine tried to commit suicide some time ago. She's on the right track, undergoing therapy and all, but still...

Anyways, Great work Mike McL. Keep going!

GOod wokr, I like the duotone look to this shot. I like the foot placement and the overall look. Maybe get some rope hanging down your legs or something, give others a good clue to what has happened even more.
