Description I counted the shades of green
in the land of my father's fathers
and set my watch back a hundred years.
I wrapped my tongue,
loosened by rich pints of warm Guinnesss,
around the Gaelic
and got punch drunk on the words of Yeats
Irish eyes and fiddle music.
I found the song of Erin
is a Pan reed boat
lost out on Galway Bay
where bards stitch their words
into fishing nets
and dream of old gods
under the moons of Connemara.

I really like this, it's very nicely done.. I'm wondering if I can use it for a poetry assignment in my English class?

I don't tend to read much literature, but now I'm starting to think I should!

Hmm... everything. I can't argue with that much~

I really liked this. Very Irish-y.

Incidentally, my dad recently told me there is a bar in New York City where he ordered a Guinness once and the bartender managed to swill it under the tap just right to put a little four-leafed clover in the foam. The mention of Guinness brought that to mind.

Poetrymann In reply to AnnamaeTezuka [2010-07-30 15:27:13 +0000 UTC]

*Smiles* That seems to be a common bartender trick in pubs. And Guinness is my favorite beer. Thanks.

Is it really? That's awesome.

Cool! ^_^ I hear Guinness is good; I wouldn't really know tho, I'm old enough to give myself lung cancer but not to drink away the pain of the realization, go figure... (as in, between 18 - 21)

I Love this, though I've never been there yet. Your poem reminds me of my grandfather and his accent calling me deary and telling me some rhyme I'd never heard of before or singing to my mother or myself.

This poem is very moving. The way you discribe the landscapes, the culture and yes even the beer, it is as if you can feel the wind and view the shades of green...and taste the countries wonderful beer. Awesome poem!

My fiancΓ©e and I are going to Ireland this summer for our honeymoon, I can't wait to explore and discover all its riches. My grandfathers, grandfather orginally came from Ireland. Its hard to imagine that no one in my family has ever been to Ireland to visit...Well it shall be my pleasure to be the first, since then. Anyhow, Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful poem, its gorgeous!
