Mazinger Z is unique as a robot anime series, one of its more subtle features being the use of female robots.

Stereotypically, in the sci-fi genre of its time, robots are dominantly male, or follow the physiological makeup of a male human being. In this cartoon series, female robot designs were used to differentiate between the pilots of different genders. For example, the hero robot Mazinger Z is pilot by a young guy called Koji Kabuto, but its female counterpart Aphrodite A is piloted by a girl called Sayaka Yumi, daughter of Dr. Yumi (Yumi built that robot in the anime).

Eventually, Aphrodite A would be destroyed and be replaced by another powerful robot, Diana A.

Minera X is a robot which resembles female anatomy, and is female replication of the Mazinger Z model. She appeared in only one episode - episode 38 of the classic TV series. Unlike the other female robots, Minerva is run purely by artificial intelligence AI. However, despite being conceived by the original creators of Mazinger Z, she was stolen by Dr Hell and was used for destructive purposes.
