Description "Life is not always a fairy tale, 'tis true, but that does not mean that 'happily ever after' ceased to exist. Magic is real; if only you just let it be." ~Damien McCartney

FULLVIEW PLEASE!!!!!!! I promise it's worth it!!! And if you want to see the nitty-gritty intimate close up ya gotta download ppls!!!!!! thanks!!!!!

At long last....I have created...life!!!!
phew.....man....I can't believe it's finally done!

Last year, =MadMouseMedia proposed The Great Calendar Project. First-come-first-serve the first twelve artists signed up were each allowed a month of their choosing of those available [faster you got in better your choices were of course] and the conjoined pieces were then made into a calendar by herself. It was a glorious project and I was enthralled to be a part of it! I'm proud to have the calendar hanging in my upstairs hallway right now. Gorgeous artwork and such a wonderful variety. When Jenifer proposed TGCP [The Great Calendar Project] again this year with the hopes it will remain an annual thing, I was beyond excited and immediately hopped on board again. And once more I was lucky and snagged April--my birthday month . Last year I'd drawn this image here as a pencil lineart with every intention of entering it as my submission that year, colored. But due to time limitations it was never finished. Instead I submitted Damien instead. Which actually turned out as a nice addition to the calendar and his color scheme, mood, and imagery all just seemed to flow better with the rest of the images entered better than this piece would have in any case so I was content. But with the opportunity to enter TGCP once more again this year, I knew I already had a head start having the lineart of my piece done. So now I could finish my original entry! The elf-dragon pic.

I started this last year...and it took a LOT to get me to actually sit down and jump in. The image highly intimidated me. I'd shaded the original lineart to try to get some lighting ideas and whatnot. I'd had advice from the lovely *Lluhnij on various ideas on how to approach the subject. In the end it just took knowing that it was going to take forever and a spot of boredom and bravado for me to start tinkering with it. See the thing is I've never had any classes in computer coloring...and I honestly have no real clue what I'm doing. I just point, click, and hope It took tips and advice and encouragement/"o.o WOW!"s from everyone I showed the WIPs to along the way as they came to make it through. I especially thank Mouse, Elena, and Sherry for the random tips/advice you passed along on varying techniques. And thank you Cari for taking a look at the pines in the beginning to help me decide if they were to be hated or left as they were lol. You guys really helped this come together And I guess for having no clue what I'm doing it certainly turned out perdy good ey? heh..... I know it's got some issues and whatnot but I'm content with it and I claim it done! At long last! *happysigh*

So I give to you : The Great Calendar Project 2009 April

I was drawn to this one, even though I know I've seen it before. The lush landscape and the two companions travelling... it has a wonderful feeling to it Plus, landscapes are evilly hard, so kudos for taking that on here too!

Haha! Thanks hun! It's these kinds of landscapes that I find myself "decent" at...others...not so much.  And though I've made this piece forever ago there is still something about it that makes me proud.  I think it will forever remain a piece that I favor.  I'm very glad that it still holds weight with you too.

Very welcome!! I can't draw landscapes either, I feel like I tend to cheat my way out of drawing them all the time xD And I agree, it really does hold it's weight well. Ever considered trying something like this again?

I tend to get bored with inanimate objects and thus lazy with them.  Not really a good thing but I admit it lol.  But at least with forests/plants they can be simple enough but entertaining enough for me   I have considered trying to do a new version of this...I did this one quite awhile ago but I really love it.  I haven't solidified any specific composition idea yet but I've thought "Hey...I should make another pic like this again"

Silvers are my favorite as well! They are so regal and caring. And I love the expression this one has. Is there a story behind this pic?

PoldalleLovesnare In reply to EdDarkflame [2010-05-27 05:40:42 +0000 UTC]

Exactly! They're so gorgeous and I love their descriptions for personality so I just fell in love with them! one of the rare lawful good creatures I actually love! as I'm more of a chaotic good type myself lol! But I love my silver dragons and trumpet archons a lot! As in the scene in the pic or the pic itself? The scene was just to produce as realistic a depiction as I could of two of my favorite fantasy creatures ever..a silver dragon and an elf...and make them appear as casual friends going for a stroll in the woods The picture was done for a calendar project that my friend =MadMouseMedia hosts annually I just wanted to tribute my fav fantasy things together in one pic

EdDarkflame In reply to PoldalleLovesnare [2010-05-27 06:50:34 +0000 UTC]

Wow you do like them as much as I do, although elves are kind of in a lower position for me I know right! Silver dragons are so very good looking, so caring, they even like to spend time with other creatures rather than their own kind! Every time I can, I look at a few of them I have stored in a personal foldier, just to feel the epicness

It's really nice that you did this pic as both a tribute to them and for a friend. for that, I admire you Amazing job!!

lol! Elves are my first passion followed very closely by silver dragons then I tend to love certain celestials [namely archons, especially trumpet archons, and firre eladrins] and halflings and griffons as like my top 5 fav fantasy creatures heh..... hehehhehe! Yeah I loved silver dragons so much I HAD to make a character of one for myself and she's one of my favorite female characters I've ever made They're just awesome creatures!

awe! thank you!

it's kind of interesting how different people have guessed I've used different medium on this...one thought pencils, another thought markers and paint

DeathlessLord In reply to PoldalleLovesnare [2008-06-24 09:57:18 +0000 UTC]

I guessed pencil crayon from the layered sketchyness.
I don't think thats quite the right way to describe how you did it , but its the only way I can think of

PoldalleLovesnare In reply to DeathlessLord [2008-06-25 04:11:55 +0000 UTC]

lol it looks like there's some marker, paint, and pencil in there....not even sure how I managed that lol...I just used the paintbrush tool for it all but hey! it looks cool lol
