Description
This is part of a reference sheet I am making for a future comic about a rather strange relationship between a young priest-in-training and a mermaid princess.Her kimono is not that boring, it does in fact have a very pretty design, but I was much too lazy to include that on the portrait since it's not the focus of the image. Soon enough I shall post the full reference.
Her name is Yue and she is a mermaid princess. She's basically a spoiled-brat who takes what she wants. Even if what she wants is said reluctant-prince in training.

Joli travail, le visage est fin et très asiatique, les détails sont nombreux et on sent bien son caractère rien que part son expression. La seule chose que je pense pourrait être améliorée est les effets sur les cheveux, ils font un peu trop artificiels, ils brillent autant que les bijoux ce qui met ces derniers moins en valeur

C'est ce que je voulais! Ce que j'aime le plus, (mais on voit pas sur l'image) c'est que quand on enleve son maquillage, elle a vraiment l'air "poisson"

Everytime I think about just forgoing detail, I think of your pictures and I get so terribly inspired and I just end up going through with it despite tears and pain hahaha.
I'm still not done with her full profile. I've been kind of putting it off for a while now. Maybe I'll post a video of me doing it, but I'll need a whole day to do it.
Detail really does make everything 100 times better though.
Yes future comic!! I have yet to make a plot but I think it would be really fun to actually try my hand at a comic, even if it would be only 30-50 pages long.

This is such a pretty design!! I love it! The colors are awesome, and so is the hair and the make-up and the symmetry of the whole thing. Beautiful~

This is the image where my love for symmetry really shows. I love creating a perfect balance and there's no better balance than something symmetrical.

I love symmetry too! And yeah, the colors look really good I love the shade of blue-green (turquoise I guess?) that you used and I think it goes really well with the red in a kinda unusual way.

Yeah, now that you mention it the (I call it pale sea-green because that was the effect I was looking for) does go with the red in a weird way. I'm not entirely surprised though since blue and red always go together,and of course red and green are complementary colours, this one having both is bound to go at least a little bit, haha.

Thank you! It was really fun to do. I didn't really want to go for a 100% conventional mermaid princess. I'm happy her face turned out relatively fish-like, but I was aiming for something that looked like a monster but beautiful at the same time.
I did go for a more Japanese aesthetic though, so maybe that's why?

Yeah she's pretty, but not in an overly cutesy way! It reminds me of Urashima Tarou, a japanese legend about a fisherman and a sea princess. Were you inspired by it?

Thank you! I totally understand. I was cursing myself the whole time because too much detail. I don't think I'll ever be one of those artists who can painstakingly draw complicated and detailed backgrounds...
