This flag is based on the Pahonia symbol of Belarus. Belarus identity is strongly connected to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, this symbol is the belarusian version of the Lithuanian national symbol the Vytis. It is called Pogoń. It was the national symbol of Belarus in 1918-1919 and from 1991-1995. On the knights shield it is a double cross of Belarus. The symbol is inspired by the Cross of Saint Euphrosyne. The Cross was made in 1161 it was the elic of Belarus but it disappeared in the World War II. The symbol was never used historically in this form, but the Vytis is used in Lithuania in this way in modern days.
