A painting I did for an Anti Discrimination campaign.In our society, pop culture is in the lead, and they have marginalized dark skinned women more in our culture than any I've ever seen. Light skin, 'white features', and fine hair are disgustingly coveted qualities. Our population is moving further and further away from any one ethnicity, while at the same time the entertainment industries that are the mecca of modern American culture are holding ever stronger to the backwards ideals of light, feminine beauty. I wanted to show here the seedy, heartbreaking act of many women who hold each other to these ridiculous, unhealthy standards. Whether it be skin color, weight, conduct, or state of mind.

Beautifully done.
The subtle active AND passive violation of each individual's God/Nature-given identity, in order to benefit the status quo and ease the mind of mainstream onlookers, has been a ubiquitous and continuing problem through human history.
We stand on the cusp. I hope that we as a global collective can transcend this primal need to force others to fit a box or to meet our petty and arbitrary standards; and in doing so, redeem humanity by some small measure.

Beautiful piece. There is so much energy in the composition, a unique and effective take on your message, and a real depth of emotion. I love the claustrophobic, cornered feel, and the way the "white" paint changes the hair color and texture as well. Beautifully executed.

I really really like the idea behind and the general composition, even
without your explanation one can read your message.
Pls, the time you can see you got better with colours,
load this piece again and work it out further. Push it every time
you got better. this work is worth the effort.
Especially the beackground looks wonky and unclean.
But still, great work. Really nice!
