Forgot to add, the other parts of of this picture look really good.
The head makes me thing of a comic version of Jack from Mass Effect

Sorry, but Adam Warren draws lips that look like two slugs mating and this is what these lips remind me of as well.
The lips on some of his female characters seriously turn me off his otherwise excellent art

As a fan of lip inflation (yes, I'm weird) I would have to say Adam Warren is an excellent person to contemplate when it comes to a more 'pouty' style.

Well, at least YOU like them. I can't stand the way Adam draws lips.

I like the sexy eye a lot, the lips are not muhc of my taste, but I must say that I have the same feeling when I draw lips xD

I'm really impressed, to say the least. The Adam Warren inspiration is very apparent - at least with the lips. They always look so luscious and full, but never charicatured or overtly large, no?

I'm going to have to start piecing features together to get a better idea of how I want to draw my characters.

The two eyes up in the upper left are really nice.
The "dominant" eyes are so-so, the best one is probably on the bottom left, but that could be because it's the only one that's shaded all the way.
The lips... eh. too square for most of them, and the one that isn't is way too biased toward the bottom lip.
The ears all look pretty nice, the noses are too hard to really see without being on a head but nothing's glaringly bad. Your best bet is to put the "meanness" in the character's expression than to try and exaggerate their traits. It'll make the other characters look too out of place.

The top left eye and the big ol' lips reminded me of Warren's stuff immediately. I gotta agree, something about the section of dominant eyes seems flat. The noses and ears all turned out well, but something about that head shape makes me think of a puppet. Maybe because it is missing hair.

Ya, I'm going to need to start drawing full figures soon and see what that looks like.

I know the feeling dude, I can do features fine but as soon as i try to throw it all together I always get something out of proportion or not quite right. Usually around the hips.

mm, i can see all of those eyes on the bottom having use on the right sort of character. if we call them
1 2
3
4 5 for ease of clarity...
#1 is definitely the gentlest of the five, more loving.
#2.... superhero/villain mask.
#3 is weird, almost vacant. would do well for mind-control Top-by-proxy
#4 looks very weird to me. not sure why.
#5... well, there's nothing there.

lol what's funny is I was inspired by Phantom's eyes for this grouping. I didn't like how I did any of them though.
I like the other two eyes I drew after those much better.

I could tell you were copying Adam Warren's lips right away. very distinctive and you captured it well.

I'm glad I pulled it off. I don't intend my final result to be a complete copy of his style, but I wanted to practice something that works already so I can learn how to draw it then try to draw it my way.
I'm happy I'm making progress.

it looks very good, though i wouldn't be so quick to draw puffy lips, if only for the fact that it is not a trait found commonly in your average lady.

Porcelain-Joe In reply to PlayfulElegy [2010-07-11 02:01:01 +0000 UTC]
Well in cartoons, there's no such thing as average. You draw in extremes or else your drawings are boring.
Superhero men are always more muscular than is humanly possible and superhero women are more voluptuous than is normally possible.
Same goes for pin-up drawings or any other sort of cartoon that portrays a sexy woman. If you go for an "average" look, your character will be boring unless of course you're trying to make your character boring on purpose but even then, you take "average" to it's extreme to go for comedic effect.

yeah. I'm just saying for the sake of variety. An extreme person doesn't exactly stick out when everyone is extreme. It really depends on where you want your focus.
