For one of the first (and perhaps only) times, I'm going to tell you this looks better when you zoom in~After not doing a serious digital painting since September and the tennis season ending, I was like, HEY, WHY DON'T I TRY DRAWING AGAIN. 15+ hours later...I was done. Haaaa.
This is a drawing of stephaniescarlet 's OC Caz(cade) for her contest ~ It's been going on for a while and I'd been meaning to enter since the beginning, but that obviously didn't happen...until now. In case it's not obvious, here Caz is sitting on a rock deep in thought, as the day ends behind him. As he has some limited water powers, I had him absentmindedly twirling water around one arm as he ponders...something. I was thinking this could be before he proposes to Shimokami, or he's thinking about Aqua, or perhaps both. Up to the viewer~
Some more notes:
- Years ago (two?) Sorcaron said I should try drawing something backlit. I've tried stuff kind of backlit before, but I think this is the first time I've done one truly backlit. Satisfied? You probably don't even remember saying that haha...
- This wasn't supposed to end up lineless. And yet, the background is completely lineless and he's mostly lineless...so there goes my time and sanity.
- Most of this was blending mode after blending mode thrown on each other. I was experimenting after watching a speed paint of this by KiJaein where she used them to set the mood/do a lot of the lighting. I don't think I did it as well but...it was interesting!
- I know he has long fingerless gloves, but...artistic liberties? I figured he'd just get sand and water on them...and it wouldn't have looked good with the colors in this particular drawing. Sorry.
- What is lighting.
- I don't think I drew his hair right...aahhhh
- BUT PLEASE LOOK AT THE EAR I'M SO PROUD OF IT~
- I tried so hard to get the colors right, but it wasn't working... It's better than it started, but I hope I can pull off color better in my next drawing.
- He kind of looked better without some of the overlays.... so have Caz floating and the lines .

Thank you! I do wish I'd brought them together better, but I don't regret much. The background was so painful and time consuming, I never want to look at a cloud again.

And that is why I draw all of my characters just absently floating in space. Ey, don't be hatin' on clouds. Clouds exist to protect us from the sun's blinding, scorching light, so that I may enjoy the wonderful darkness of a sunless sky. Is darkness not your friend too?

lol I stared first at the ear, and then I noticed that the ear was what you were most proud of XD And you should be!
Aaah my baby, I can tell that you carefully read his bio ^^ He would most likely take off his gloves and kneesocks to avoid them from getting wet, and gloves in the summer? No thank you!

I'd practiced a realistic painted ear twice before, and this was by far the easiest and the best~ Ears are honestly evil.
I hoped it would be accurate enough! Ah good, I thought that would be true, but I wasn't sure. JSDhkajhkjhsdf

No? I drew it in Medibang. I was going to try some effects in Photoshop, but my version is so old there wasn't anything to actually try.
