Kiara, the middle-born to Simba and Nala, was named as the heir apparent for the Ndona pride - a position she did not relish when she began to learn what would be expected of her as a future ruler. She was engaged to the third-born of the cousin of one of the ring prides but Kiara and Jioni never really got along. Jioni was always acting stuck-up and more important than Kiara, and the two would often quarrel during their meetings.

Things especially changed when Kiara met Kovu, and the engagement between Kiara and Jioni was dissolved when the warring prides joined together.

Kiara and Kovu had twins Usiku and Moto reasonably early in their life, learning how to be parents while also learning who they were as adults. Fortunately they had the support of Simba and Nala, as well as Sarafina and other parents of the pride.

Unfortunately, the dissoval of the engagement left Jioni in a terrible mindset. He vowed revenge for these wrong-doings, with effects that would last a generation.
