History is a very important subject (despite the many bias in our textbooks)- and not to gloat- but i nailed that effin' subject on PMR and SPM. but i do think we need to change some things about learning History... I feel sorry for kids who need to take exams nowadays, since this era strives on fast information, kids just don't retain information like their elders used to. Memorizing is hard for them... and unlike other crucial subjects History needs lots and lots of memorizing..

Well, history is very important. But looks like some bad parts of history is repeating itself in our country. :V

I do love history of certain places during certain timelines. Or anything historical if taught right or in an interesting way. Unfortunately, it isn't very interesting now. :V
Also, my BM sucks, every time I try to read something in BM, it hurts my brain lol.
I wouldn't mind some English translation. Oh well.
But I nailed it in PT3 lol. But I know that PMR is harder than PT3, though. Like, much harder.

Currently, we do not learn very much other than Islam annexation on the lands and spreading their beliefs. :V and British coming over to colonize, take advantage, etc.
And they largely focus on religion. Even for Romans, Greeks, Chinese, Egyptians, etc.

If it's interesting, we don't quite have to worry about memorizing them. I can recall a lot of interesting facts and events during the Sengoku Jidai, 3 Kingdoms, Some Tudor, Viking, Roman, Greek, Celtic, Saxons, Normans, Aztecs, Incan, Georgians, Victorian, 1st and 2nd world wars stuffs. probably more but can't think of any right now. XD

Actually, there were more facts I used to remember. I don't quite have time to read those history books again. Maybe once in a while. Wikipedia still works for learning. I learnt everything about the Sengoku Jidai through the Internet, lol. From Wikipedia, documentries, historical websites, etc. It's a lot of fun reading that. :V

Sorry for the large wall of text. I can crap a lot about history. XD

Exactly! There should have been other ways to study history other than forcing kids to memorize textbooks (which is full of bias and not providing other insights). No wonder kids hate histories. I hated the form 5 history especially because the brainwash element is especially strong there. I love the lower secondary syllabus and form 4 syllabus, especially the ones about ancient civilizations. Just wonders after wonders... and yeah, i self learned about other countries' history through internet as well, it's not much to get by but still better than nothing. Always fascinating stuffs. i don't mind studying religions as well, i think understanding religions and cultures are helpful to maintain healthy dialogue between one another in a multicultural country. But it is bias towards ONE religion only, and ignore the rest :/ No wonder some of our youths are so dense and disrespectful! One of the saddest things about our history syllabus, there's little to none about aboriginal/native cultures' contributions and importance to this country.

PMR requires crazy exam and memory skill, like SPM and STPM and other exams in your future. PT3 does not focus on your ability to memorize, it focus on your ability to understand and synthesise. So, if you said it was easy then that means you have a well developed knowledge and good grasp on history. Personally i think PT3 is a better assessment than PMR, but the execution is lame... well, baby steps to educational improvement.. though it seemed we're still going for worse T_T

ps: BM is harder than BI... i'm weak at the subject as well..

Well, I had some interest reading about Pagans, Taoists, Shinto, mix of religions like Shinto-Buddhism, etc. Cultures are interesting to learn about. Unfortunately, yeah, it does get boring with 7/10 chapters on the same religion. :/ I guess one chapter focused on religion is fine. Then other chapters can be focused on cultures, events, food culture? xD well, culture is basically a lot of things lol. Traditional music, food, clothing, structures, customs, etc.

and we all know about Hang Tuah getting removed. xP

And regarding PT3,... Uh, honestly, it was far worse than PMR. Basically, you bring in materials you find from anywhere, Internet, Magazines, very old newspapers, textbooks, etc. Then copy what's relevent to the questions given. So if all you have to do is copy, easy A. :V

and we learn nothing. Except the parts where they ask for your opinion, I guess we could answer it rationally. And questions asking for your opinion isn't really asking for opinions but trying to answer something positive and relevent to please the examiner. :V

Also, lots of sample answers can be found on the Internet. Let's just say this is a much easier version of Paper 3 Sejarah. :V

So we are still in the age of studying and memorizing or copying and focusing to get high grades without learning anything new or useful.

Yep, that's what i mean. The main idea is good but the way the idea is executed is lame. The same thing with pbs; holistic improvement they said, but it ended up being students answering more questions on paper, no different from exam based assessment.. hahahah

Sad thing, our education system... Yeah about the opinions, in class you might have the chance to be truthful in your opinions, in exam paper tho'...

Potato-Yi In reply to LeeYunna [2015-10-05 13:52:24 +0000 UTC]

But well, PBS was like, on the spot so not much memorizing work. Answer, and easily forget it, unfortunately. Since we rush to the next chapter that fast. :V Honestly, I still can't tell the difference between PBS and PT3 lol. Our PT3 results was used for class streaming. :V no news of the pbs stuffs.

Hmm, no freedom of speech in exams. We don't quite get people to think and speak their minds then. Some teachers don't get the joke when we answer their questions regarding politics in Moral Studies. (gst, red/yellow shirt, lol)

Same here, screw the History paper 3.
Damn that long essay we had to write.
In fact, it just 30% of whole History examination's mark.

At least Paper 3 takes less effort. It's like free marks. :V But if I'm not mistaken, when you take Paper 3 marks to combine with 1 and 2, it's only 10% maximum Boost I think.

That was useful and convenient. XD

PT3 Sejarah was ludicrously easy. :V
Just carry in any source of information and start copying stuffs. :V

Well, not so easy now at form 4 and upcoming SPM. But still have a Paper 3 which is similar to PT3 version which is pretty much a booster.

wow, our country's education standards. :V
