I seem to remember Crashlanders having four legs, not three... Was I wrong?

it depends on the drawings - in the first ones (like this) it was three back legs... but i threw on another later on

I can totally picture this becoming a rather comical situation where the alien doesn't listen to the officer and then tries to get away but the officer tackles it or tazes it-like something out of the cops shows!Β

I REALLY like high-tech/low tech contrasts like this. A very cool piece... and I dig the aliens' body language, too.

Perfect storytelling in an image. Even the pose of the animal in the harness is spot on. Love the desert colours too.

This whole thing is amazing, I love the Kal-Tuhn (I'm assuming that's what they're called from the other piece) "pentapods". They have a distinctive look from the humans, and amphorians, yet still "fit". They aesthetics are amazing. Did you have any specific intention behind the "pentapod" anatomy? Were they 5-fold radially symmetric that evolved "secondary" bilateral symmetry, or was it something else like a tail-to-leg or limb-fusion evolutionary development?

I like the mix of human and alien, and high and low tech. It makes me thing of some picture I've seen from developing nations, where there will someone on a cell-phone on an ox-driven cart.

povorot In reply to labgnome [2011-06-12 15:03:13 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, man. The idea was that the Kal-tuhn would indeed have evolved 'secondary' bilateral symmetry from a distant radially symmetrical ancestor. That's only for the moment, though - I like the idea of limb fusion a lot too, which could be very cool to explore a bit more.

Also, I'm glad you like the hi-lo tech mix. It's one of my favourite visuals to use in sci fi - since you do end up seeing it so much in real life, it adds that extra element of realism to the piece.

labgnome In reply to povorot [2011-06-14 00:11:53 +0000 UTC]

I was just trying to get a better concept in my head how they are "put together", where the various squishy (and not squishy) bits go and where the holes should be sort of stuff. Pluss I wanted to know if they were possibly (distantly) related to the radially symmetric Meldon Mind-Eels from the Bar Fight comic.

I mush say, and maybe it's fondness for Cowboy Bebop and Firefly (the live-action cowboy bebop), that I like the "outer space is the wild west" motif.

Yeah, I could see that - I'm a big fan of Alex Ries, so no doubt some of his work rubbed off on me.

These dudes are pentapods, though - and with much less 'alien' anatomy then the birrin. More like a strange camel-bug hybrid.
