Description one.

for mercy, first and foremost.  how can you call me cruel when i silence my sister misery?  the dead are dead alike.  they cannot feel the struggles of the living.  there is no body to find the pain; no nerves to sing a symphony of suffering, no hand to hold.  i am a journey we make alone, like every other we make in life.  just that the path swallows itself as your feet leave the ground.  there is no breadcrumb trail, for the dead do not eat.  there is no nightingale song to hint at the backwards road, for the dead do not sing.  there is no longer any need for home, not when my arms are the one thing you have been waiting for all your life.  not when living is really about learning how to die.

I've always had problems classifying my written work of this length because it sits at the uncomfortable point between poetry and prose - do you have any tips on deciding which category to put it into?

Thanks for the review - it's nice to have someone tell me how I can improve rather than just telling me it's good, because there's always room for improvement...

Tough call. If it were my piece, I'd play around with the meter and turn it into poetry. It's close to that already. Otherwise, I suggest trying Prose Nonfiction. I think WordSmiths has that category now. My instincts, however, say this should be a poem.

living is really about learning how to die Interesting proposition. I re-read this piece after reading the final line, found it coloured it differently; like a coming-to-grips with the loss and fear and seeing the peace behind it.

general. if she wishes to write her pieces without capitol letters
then she is free to do so. it's perfectly normal and
adds to the feel of the piece.
