From my Lanterns in the Gloom collection

"Light from the house plays
Out across the deep dark sea
Then draws on merfolk
Who lie on the rocky shore
They're bandaged and helped from land"

> The second itty-bitty bite-sized sashimi story from the "Oral Tales" chapter of my upcoming poetry collection "Lanterns in the Gloom." The book will follow young Annalie into her imaginary world made real, where dwarves and elves bicker, vampires and werewolves make war, fae live in blue woods, dragons aren't mean, and I threw in a second kitchen sink for good measure.

"Oral Tales" is inspired by Elias Lönnrot's real-life travels through the land of Karelia to record the oral traditions there that he then stitched together with his own bits in-between to form what would become the Finnish national epic Kalevala.

This is not nearly so grand as all that. But that is simply my inspiration
