The tattoos are all markings left by the Unown, but as far as what they mean, they hint at events that will happen in her future. The other markings are reminiscent of the patterns of a Sigilyph to symbolize the past (she's a reincarnation of an ancient priestess, a fact she doesn't much care for).

It's a Pokemon called Unown, it's got 28 forms for letters A-Z , ? and !
In the games, they're usually used to write out messages on stone tablets in ruins. They make little puzzles that get you items if you get them right.
