Description Alyssa has her very first encounter with a cat at her best friend's house and she is not impressed! Especially since the cat is infatuated with her tail! Her best friend can't help but laugh at Alyssa's overreaction.

(On a side note, any constructive criticism is welcome )

(Secondary side note, updated with a bunch of suggestions from SickleYield! Thanks!)

That tail.. with a mind of its own. No cats are going to be able to resist that!

Especially with the rattles, it just makes it extra irresistible to catsΒ Β

Thanks! I tried a rim light on the girl, but i didnt see any noticeable effects on her. i must be doing something wrong. i also softened the distant light shadows, dont know if thats better or worse

There was another way to react... This one is probably better.

I think that was too much cuteness for me to handle. I think it's perfect. The grass is amazing and I love the plants. The textures are amazing.Β

This is cute Β  I like their expressions.Β  Those can be hard to capture in general but especially on child morphs!

If you really do want constructive criticism:

The scene's composition revolves around the lines of the house instead of the figures.Β  I would have made it taller, narrower, and focused tighter on the three girls and the cat rather than showing us so much front yard and potted plants that aren't really part of your "story".

The lighting is decent.Β  I don't know if the harsher cast shadows really promote the whimsical tone, but they're not jarring.

Thanks! yeah i never thought about changing the size of the picture, ive always only rendered for my own desktop backgrounds, so it never even occurred to me to change it! Thanks, I'll do that for sure! How better could the lighting be? im not at all good with lights, so any help is very much appreciated!

Well, I don't know what your normal setup is for lighting, but most scenes need:

An Advanced Ambient or Uber light for occlusion (this adds weight and realism) set to no more than 35%.Β  This also acts as your "fill," simulating the way light bounces around in real life that we can't directly simulate in an engine like Studio's.

A distant light for "key" set to about the same, with shadows and specular on.Β  This gives the scene light that comes from a direct, visible source.Β  It looks like you have one, but the shadows need turned down a bit.

A spotlight for "rim."Β  A rim light is behind and to one side of your main subject or figures in a scene, and helps pick them out from the background by creating a rim of light on the side it's on.Β  It looks like you could use one of these behind and to the right of the girl with the snake tail, to draw more attention to her.Β  Sometimes this light can have shadows turned off, depending whether they would mess up the scenes primary shadows.

Some scenes also need more spotlights and/or point lights for effects, but those three are what's important to start from, and I don't think this scene really needs more.

oh wow thanks! i do have an advance ambient at 50%, and a distant light, i also have a spotlight to highlight the mom in the window, cuz it was too dark in my opinion, ill try that rim light, thanks! and try toning down the AA light, and try to turn down the shadows! Thanks a million, this is totally what i need to make my stuff better!Β Β

Good job with the pose and expression

Ha! Thank you very much! I can imagine she's just ringing the doorbell when the cat attacks her tail and she flips, then her friend opens the door to this hilarious scene, while the mother peeks out the window at all the ruckus! I'm sure Alyssa's screech can be heard a mile away!

wolfmanX9 In reply to PrecisGirl [2014-10-21 16:04:43 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure she can scream in such a high pitch. She's a lamia after all: half-human and half-snake. I wonder if she is good at talking like a snake?

lol, i can see her lying in the grass having an animated conversation with a little garden snake!

Indeed XD. Still, I wonder what she would react if she saw a "normal" snake. Hm.......

Oh dear, doesn't Alyssa know that cats are rather adept climbers? She'll need to get a lot higher than that to escape her fate as the cat's plaything!

Giggles, "It won't hurt you... Besides, you're bigger than it."

As to comments, you already know my opinion of your work. There is something off on the bricks and wood though, might just be because of the file size, but they almost seem like they're made of plastic. Its weird, i can't say what's off, but its like when i was looking at trim fencing for a garden, the plastic block wall was lacking something that made it obvious that it wasn't real stone. Considering the amount of detail you put into this picture, i can imagine that something had to suffer to keep the file size reasonable, and your figures are still some of the best i've seen (still want to see you do my lamia, can give you a desc ifn you want to use him as a guinea pig).

Yeah, that stonework for the pathway was the only one I had. Can't afford better for now. The brick, tho, is part of the house's textures, didn't even think to change that! Thanks! And sure, note me a description and I'll see what I can do!
