Description Currently in-progress reconstruction of the long-snouted and long-spined pycnodont fish Gladiopycnodus. Pycnodontiformes are some of my favorite extinct animals, they have such an amazing array of diversity and I'm always surprised they're not more popular. Current research suggests elongated forms like Gladiopycnodus may have swam vertically w/ their snout pointed towards the seafloor to snap up small invertebrates, similar to modern razorfish/shrimpfish.
