Are the bottles actually filled with those items? I know a few are actually illegal to buy (at least where I live). If so, do you know what some of those would do, according to folklore? I am trying to make one right now for Halloween.

I'm curious, what does the text on the paper in the upper left hand corner say?
Also, did you take the time to write any text in the handbook, or did you find text somewhere that you used, or is it blank inside?

The text on the paper reads -
"Vampyre Killing Kit
Accoutrements for the protection and eradication of vsampyres and other metamorphoses
This case contains the accoutremanets for protection of persons who travel to little known countries of Eastern Europe, where the populace are plagued with a particular infestation of evils known as vampyres.
We respectfully request that the purchaser of this kit carefully studies his book in order, should evil manifestations become apparent, he will equipped to deal with them efficiently.
The items enclosed are as follows -
1) An efficiant pistol and accoutrements
2) 10 bullets
3) Silver crucifix
4) Holy Water
5) Holy Bible
6) Rosary beads
7) A mallet and two wooden stakes
8) two small crucifix stakes
9) knotted rope
10) silver dagger
11) 15 phials of apotropaic repellents and one syringe "

Obviously you know this is fantastic already, but I do have a question.
Does that firearm actually use those bullets? If so, how? (I'll assume that the chambers are loaded with gunpowder similar to a cannon before the balls are inserted... but as you can tell, I'm not really knowledgeable about guns).

Yeah, the 1849 Colt pocket pistol had a removable cylinder. When the cylinder was removed you would pack it with gun powder (in a cloth casing), ball bullet on top, and the percussion cap in the rear, the you reinserted the cylinder.
The good news is that you had 6 shots to fire...The bad news is, once you fired those 6 shots you would probably have to spend another 10 minutes reloading them all.
Later they replaced the ball bullets with the more common pointy type bullets....THen I think they eventually used the bullets that had the lead, gunpowder, and percussion cap all built into the bullet (like modern bullets).

It's really quite fascinating. I had no idea that any revolvers operated like that.
As awkward as that might have been, it was leaps ahead of the flintlock and most likely any other pistol before that. Ten minutes to reload six shots, yes, but I'm guessing that was an improvement. Or, in any case, the added reloading time made up for the ability to throw out six shots. (Which would probably be way more than you'd need in most cases, as real life isn't exactly like a computer game...) Anyway, interesting stuff. Thanks.
