Description

Moonrock Grove, a place some way from Oceana's home. The young Seafin headed out a few days ago in search for it as it was said to be the one place where the moonlight touched the strongest in all the waters of the world. Many boast how the rocks shimmer in many hues, the foliage glistened, the way the water lite up was unlike anything the sun could accomplish. She knew she had to see it. No longer could she stand to hear the tales, see the paintings. Though there was one concern. Many rumors flew around when she mentioned her destination, mentions of a monsters swimming about. One who's call lured in visitors who never returned. As scary as they sounded, her love for the night and moonlight was too strong.

The moment her eyes touched the glowing rocks and dazzling light that pierced the waters, she knew she had finally made it. Her tail flicked through the water quicker and quicker, body twirling with joy. It was as if she were within a shimmering dream. Floating on her back, she stared at the water's surface dancing with her as the blazing moonlight surrounded her in its gentle, ghostly warmth. It was everything she dreamed the place would be, better than all told or shown to her. And like a dream, she heard a sound unlike any she had heard. Her head and body twisted toward its direction. Curiously, the mare swam over.

With every stroke of her tail, the sound grew louder, drawing her in with no urge to pull away. She had to know what this was. The answer quickly hit her, it was a song, one a mare must be singing. Her pace quickened as was the sight of the source. An image of a dark turquoise mare sharpened soon turning to a hippocampus of some sort? She was unsure of what kind of sea creature she was. Judging by her coat and fins, she was no Seafin, but was she a kind of hippocampus? Not wanting to bother her, she ducked behind some seaweed not wanting to be seen. The mare sang gently, yet projected her voice toward the moon, the light shown upon her chest strongly. For a moment, Oceana thought she saw something in front of the mare sparkle. Could she be holding something? No long able to hold back her curiosity, she inched forward, hiding herself the best she could behind what was there until she was close enough to be heard. Suddenly, her music stopped, the sparkling she swore she saw went away completely.

"Who is watching me?" The strange mare lifted her head curiously. Oceana let off a hastened gasp before ducking behind the rocks. "Oh, did I scare you?" Slowly, the mare swam near her locations. "I don't bite if that's what you're afraid of."

"You're not mad I spied on you?" Without thinking, mare popped out from her place of hiding, a pull on the back of her mind called for her to run yet she couldn't.

"Mad? Because you wished to hear my song? Don't be silly." She extended a friendly hoof. "My name is Amor, yours?" Oceana smiled and took her hoof.

"Oceana!" She said happily. Amor shook the mare's hoof in a friendly manor.

"What an adorable name! Perfect by the looks of you." The little, shy mare scrunched up a bit, a sheepish smile on her face. "You're probably what I'm doing here, what with the rumors flying about, yet I could ask you the same."

"I wanted to see if the tales were true, about the moon light."

"So, you love the moon light too?" Oceana nodded excitedly.

"What isn't there to love?! The way it hits the water, how everything shimmers!" She opened out her hooves with joy and passion as she exclaimed her love for the night. In her expression, her eyes quickly caught sight of a glowing gem on Amor's greyish blue chest. It shimmered and glowed brilliantly, encapsulating her with its beauty.

"You like it?"

"Uh!" She pulled her hooves in awkwardly, that feeling of danger continued to pound at her, but she couldn't help but ignore it. "I didn't mean to stare."

"Dear, don't be. It's not often you find creatures with objects imbedded in their chests. This gem is my source of magic, do you know what magic is?"

"Magic?! You have magic?!"

"A special sort. Care to see?" Oceana nodded excitedly, her posture straightening as her eyes burrowed into the sea mare before her. Amor let of a gentle laugh before straightening up and opening her mouth. Out came a lovely tune and as she sung, her gem glowed. Soon, a light, moon yellow aura emerged forming into the shape of a fish which swam around the curious Seafin. She twirled about as she watched it move around her before fading as the song ended.

"Wow!"

"Fun, isn't it?" Amor looked to her with a light in her eyes. "You see, the moon's light gives my gem strength and what better place than here."

"Oh yes! The perfect place to bask and dance! Do you like dancing?"

"Sometimes."

"Just being here makes me want to twirl and shake!" Oceana started to do swish about under the moon light. "Especially when the light's so bright!" Amor hummed kindly.

"It has been years since I've been here...." A sigh escaped her lips. "How I missed the sights...."

"Years?"

"Nothing you need to be concerned about, dear." Her hoof reached out and patted Oceana's head. "Well, it has been nice, but I must be off."

"So soon?! But, we just met, and-"

"Don't you have some exploring to do?"

"It can wait." The mare smiled softly at her, almost longingly.

"I appreciate your company, truly. These few moments have been so warm, and I thank you for them. The time has come, I'm afraid. My business here is near done and I must return home. Don't you have a home you must return to?"

"Not now."

"Yet I must. Take care, little Oceana. May our paths cross again." Amor swam off into the depths of the sea, the sense of danger going with her.

"Goodbye!" Oceana waved to her before returning to her own business.

HOO! This took some time, but it was SO worth it! Despite the work load, among other things, I managed to get this done in time! I was contest hunting for something quick and came across this. I've been looking for an excuse to redraw Amor and when I saw this cute little girl, I just had to draw this! I also tried out something new, found a nice free texture for some of the effects, and I LOVE how it came out! Oh, did it come out nice! Now I can properly concentrate on everything else. I hope you like the story and picture! I did my best to capture her character from the little I knew so I hope I did well with that!

A little context: Amor, after spending years trapped in a rock prison, finally was freed and went to one of her favorite places, Moonrock Grove. She, of course, intended to mess with some of its visitors feeding off their passion for the locations beauty and leaving them there, drained and lost. The siren happend upon another sea creature, but one she didn't feel like draining finding her too sweet and young to mess with.
