Very interesting image. Feels like it should be more powerful than it is. The ice is the interesting part of the photo but it feels like you're looking past it. I keep feeling I want to REALLY see the ice. I want to see enough to see it's chill or it's menace or it's cold beauty. Perhaps an even wider lens and get lower. Keep the horizon where it is be with the lower wider perspective, the ice will begin to loom at the viewer. All the right stuff otherwise....

Well, we're both looking at the image on monitors. The high details seldom have presence. If I was seeing detail in the high whites, the snow will probably start to look pretty gray. I like it where it is. Digital is full of technical rules that, if followed, make for pretty lifeless images. To this day I do commercial images with blown whites and blocked blacks and get into fistfights with the prepress guys here. Do what makes the image look good to you. As you learn your perspective on what looks good will change. Good luck!!
