This is for 's "Run Away from Reality" contest. Now most entries I saw there were so... magical and fantastical. I was tempted to do something similar ('cause of an idea I had previously) but I stopped and wondered, why not do another side of "running away from reality"? So as you can see... there are no big magical swirls, interesting beasts or supernatural elements. What my picture is based on is how normal people run away from reality. Let's face it, reality's not fun - far from it. So I drew my two performing twins doing what they do and people enjoying it - both the twins and those watching are running away from reality in their own ways, I feel. The people watching are running away by just that - watching. Them being entertained allows them to not do their jobs and tasks - the crushing reality of their normal lives. And the twins themselves are dirt poor - they wear (well one in particular) exciting colourful clothes, smile and cheer but they are dirt poor and when tomorrow comes, they'll be on the road again - trying to avoid the many hazards of travel such as monsters, food, the weather and bandits.I guess I just wanted to do a different side of "running from reality". Plus, it's been so long since I've drawn Vanessa and Merl. I've always wanted to try them again. Actually I've redesigned Vanessa completely but I'm happier with her this way. I'm both really happy and really disappointed with this picture. I'm not sure if my message makes sense for one and the background was a nightmare and it shows. However I'm happy with most of the shading and the anatomy in some places though the tambourine was also a nightmare.
By the by, the blonde in front is Lilith, Takaiyuki's character.xD I knew I was gonna do a crowd so I figured, why not make her smile! The others in the crowd are no one of relevance.

But I digress... yes, that's exactly what I wanted to portray! Life isn't fun but there are so many things we can do to run from reality and make it a better place. That's truly what I believe.^^

I think that there's a lot you can do to escape reality, and after getting back from your escape, I'm not sure about you, but I usually tend to see the world a little bit differently every time. Perhaps I'll do my own version of escaping from reality sometime too

Mm, me too. When I thought of the concept, I had so many different ideas because it can be interpreted many different ways. And I also feel that way. When I watch something I like or read something I feel like a little bit changes or that I see something more clearly or differently. It's very interesting to think about.

Escaping from reality then re-entering it lets people see the world with a less stressed and slightly clearer perspective, plus whatever they might have gained from their escape
My personal favorite escape has always been reading, and every time I read, I start to see things in a little bit of a different light, trying to take the mistakes of what I've read and putting them into something that I can use to improve myself, and fix the problems that I'm having at the time. Perhaps you do the same thing, or something similar, either way, it is something interesting to think about.
Hopefully I'll be able to do it sometime soon though

It's a really nice picture Prim, and I really don't want to say anything bad about it. In time, you'll look back on this picture and find your own flaws with it. But for now, I think you should just appreciate what you've done and be happy with it. ^^

There are problems with this picture, but I don't want to spoil it by pointing them out. I think it'd be better if you found these problems by yourself. Do you understand now? ^_^

The rest of the characters are cool to, but the black-haired lass caught my eye. ;3 ADORABBBLLLEEE.

Yes, the shading and the art are very good, and it shows your improvement. I especially liked the twins' clothes and poses.
But you know, it would've been interesting if you really did some kind of "reverse" running away from reality. Like having your characters from Chocky Pocky or something in the "normal world" while wearing their magical clothes. And then they look confused cuz they're all "What are we doing here?" That'll be a laugh!

This looks something out of this book i've read called Abarat, after days of being chased and horrible events they end up on the island of Babilonium which is built purely to entertain. This pic looks like a good place to be!
