Description Done purely in PowerPoint.

This is my seventh comic page.

First off, I know this page kind'a just wastes your time, aside from revealing Dexter (whose drawing was already revealed in "Special Preview" anyway). Then we have the half-assed renditions of the girls...

Sorry, been busy.

I really hope you still like it though for it's simplicity. I still worked hard on it if it means anything. I'm just facing sort of an artist block right now. Anyway, comments on the art please, not my life.

...dang, and I still owe someone a commission...

Whoohoo! XD *does fangirly backflips* I've suddenly gotten the urge to draw him your way. >.> Be on the lookout for that in the next few days. By the way, how long have you been drawing? And how in the world did you discover the use of Powerpoint in digital art? This is the first time I see anyone using that instead of OC or Painter or Photoshop.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Prince-of-Powerpoint In reply to Xhanthia [2007-03-14 03:31:10 +0000 UTC]

Haha, yay! A fan! I'll be keeping an eye on you then for that drawing.

I've been drawing in PowerPoint for almost five years. But I only seriously got into it during the last two years. From hideous stickmen to my Caricature Collection of 26 (proudly accomplished in less than 3 days), it was quite easy to pick up on how useful the basic drawing tools could be.

When I started about five years ago, I knew NOTHING about computers, so there was no OC of Photoshop for my family computer. Hehe, then I see the Drawing toolbar in PowerPoint and the rest is history.

Xhanthia In reply to Prince-of-Powerpoint [2007-03-14 11:50:13 +0000 UTC]

Sweet! ^^ Amazing what you can discover by accident. I've been meaning to give it a look and see if I can manage to draw anything using it, though now that I've been spoiled by Photoshop, I might have a liiiiittle trouble. XD The fact that you can move around separate components of an image is extremely useful, though. Now that you're more advanced in digital art, you should consider acquiring one of the programs I mentioned. I bet you could really take advantage of Open Canvas (which has a free download somewhere, since most people either don't feel like dishing out $200+ for Photoshop, or don't feel like downloading a cracked copy.) and you might even find a way to combine Open Canvas with Powerpoint. (It's possible, since I do it with Photoshop and Painter) (...wow, I talk a lot. Sorry if I'm boring you. I'm just a really big art freak.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Prince-of-Powerpoint In reply to Xhanthia [2007-03-14 13:18:48 +0000 UTC]

Not at all. I actually want to thank you for mentioning that. ^_^

I just have a few questions about OC though. The initial reason I didn't move on to Photoshop was because it was straight on painting. All I have is a mouse, and don't really want to invest in something like a tablet just for hobby's sake. So, Open Canvass...I know I could just download it instead of bothering you, but how does it work? I'm assuming it's drawing-process is more similar to Photoshop than PowerPoint...but that's about it.

Haha, looks like I talk a lot too. Anyway, I wanna thank you for taking a genuine interest in the development of my art and I really appreciate it. ...I wanna treat you out or something, hehe. But since that's not possible, lemme know if you wanna talk about anything.

Xhanthia In reply to Prince-of-Powerpoint [2007-03-14 19:27:06 +0000 UTC]

Oh, by all means, bother me all you wish. ^^ It's nice to talk to someone about something I know little about. (Wow, that's almost a head-spinner. XD)

Photoshop may indeed be more tablet-friendly, but there are certain ways around it. For example, I've noticed that you use cell shading often in your artwork. Photoshop has a tool that is perfect for cell shading, and can be used by mouse users and tablet users alike. The Pen tool is just point and click and connect the dots, that's all. Much like Powerpoint, I'm beginning to think. Better yet, if you're going for a more soft shaded look or even realism, just use the pen tool to fill in the area with color, then use the Gaussian Blur filter to blur the colors and give it a softer look. It's a technique I myself am experimenting with at the moment. ^^ See? You don't need to blow $80 dollars on a tablet to be able to use Photoshop. (I myself am guilty of owning one, though. I'll admit it's an indulgence, since I don't plan on going into art.)

I don't know much about Open Canvas, since I've never used it myself. But I can tell you that it's a slightly simpler version of Photoshop. I'm pretty sure that Open Canvas can be manipulated with a mouse, since I've seen mouse-users submit some really nice artwork around here. Many of the things that can be done in Photoshop can be done in OC, though I'm definitely partial to PS. If you're familiar with Torrent downloads, I can point you in direction of a site where you can get a copy of Photoshop CS. (But shhhh, you didn't hear it from me. ^_~)

And you're welcome. It's really fun to discover new ways of doing things, and using Powerpoint to make digital art definitely falls into the "strange and interesting" category in my book. Not that you're not pretty interesting yourself. ^^ Tell you what, next time you're down in Florida, let me know and I'll let you buy me lunch. XD

On a totally random note, what kind of books do you like to read? (wow, these comments just keep getting longer and longer. We should consider moving this into a PM. XD)

"wow, these comments just keep getting longer and longer. We should consider moving this into a PM. XD" ...lead the way!

I tried playing with Photoshop a while back. ...can't say I got around to doing much except make clouds using a filter and adding a lense flare. But I am quite happy I understood everything you said. There may be hope yet!

OC; I'll give it a try sometime then. I'm more comfortable with simpler tools anyway, so I think I'd prefer it over PS.

Haha, sure...Florida. Hey, if not, I can just draw you lunch!

I have a (as you may put it) strange and interesting literature-preference. As a child, the first book I ever read was The Little Prince. Yes, not any of those nursery storybooks...may parents shoved me directly into the novellist world. Of course, I didn't understand everything in that book the first time a read it, but you know how it goes: a child reads the story over and over again and realizes new things about it everytime.

So I'm your typical "hidden-message-hunter". I'll take the simplest of books, such as the nursery stories I was deprived of as a child and read it expecting to find something most people will miss. Take the nursery rhyme "ring around the roses" for example. A little background research will tell you the grim story behind it; a disease somewhere in South Africa that was thought to be cured by "posies". When they realized otherwise, villagers burnt the bodies of those who had it ("ashes, ashes") in fear of it spreading, but the disease spread even more because of that and "they all fell down".

Humpty-Dumpty was more of a political issue in Europe, which was sort of a mockery of the monarchy...

So, you sort'a see how twisted I am with books. But contrary to what most of my friends think about me, I really dislike books such as "Da Vinci Code". NOT because of the religious issues, but because it is a forced attempt to reveal some sort of code on purpose. I honestly expected better from Dan Brown than that.

...So, er, what books do YOU read?
