It's amazing, how many beautiful landscapes exist in the UK. So wild and old. Mostly untouched from modern things. I know this Castle from an episode on youtube by Thomas Heaton.

It is absolutely amazing,Β  I think in a lot of especially northern places, we are lucky enough that we have the space that these lovely places have never neded to be destroyed to make way for "progress"Β

This particular fortress is actually quite lovely sat on the sill over the water!

In Germany most of the castles were destroyed in the wars. Many of them were rebuilt, but some are looking modern or new and you can see the difference between an old original and a new remake. I prefer untouched old ruins.

I never knew they were destroyed!Β Β  I always thought they had just been mostly modernised as times progressd.Β

At least you still have castles thoguh, In England almost all of ours are in a state of complete ruin.

That's what I like, ruins, all is original. As far as I know, we have 2 or 3 castlesΒ  who were not destroyed and in its original state, or a bit of modern state (roofs, windows...etc). But they also were in private hands and you can only visit a few areas in and around the castle. One castle has a beautiful big garden, but you can't visit it, it's a restricted place. You can only watch it from the outside.

We have a couple like that!Β Β  Alnwick castle is still lived in and has a garden, though its open to the public its expensive to see and restricted.Β

I like being able to walk through a ruin and imagine it as it was

Agreed, I'm waiting for colder days, and maybe snow, it gives a touch of atmosphere and less tourism, so I can relax and taking pictures. And the sunrise is much later, so you don't have to get up at 4 o'clock.
