A book about the grandfather of a friend from my school-days who was born 1903 and experienced the Austrian 1st Republic (between WW I and the Nazi-occupation of Austria as a trade unionist. As such he was persecuted by the reactionary Ständestaat, and later the Nazis tried to persuade him to join NSDAP - without success. Towards the end of the war he was forced to join the Wehrmacht and became POW in Yugoslavia. In 1947 he could finally return home. in post-war Austria he was struggling to support his family before he finally retired in 1965.
